It’s about coaching and developing the players

It is useful to some schools/ coaches. To most it is meaningless.
And your point is very valid. What good is this class to A&M if the players aren’t developed to their full potential? Saban is a stickler for developing players to their full potential.

Alabama and Georgia have had the beat classes the last few years.
What two games did they play in this past season?

no they're not.

it's about evaluating players, recruiting them, and then properly developing/coaching them. It's not one or the other, it's all of the above
You aren't going to win at an elite level solely on recruiting but you also aren't going to develop a team full of 2 and 3 stars to win at an elite level either with any consistency. You have to do both well

all the top teams have talent. the difference is the coaching.

I don't think a single team has won a BCS or CFP title without at least one top 5 class in one of their last four.

Meaningless is a strong word.
Not 100% accurate? Subjective? Yes.

As evidenced by all the teams who have won championships without top ranked recruiting classes, amirite?

Well that's gonna suck for LSU because the best thing Brian Kelly was ever able to coach up was a mentally handicapped linebacker with a fake dead girlfriend.
