along with what's been described as the long-term health of the program.

FWIW, I read the ASU scout article quoting Westerman's dad.... he mentioned that AU was on top now but to not get caught in the hype. It certianly didn't read like he thought sanctions were on the way.

Westerman's Dad pretty much wants him to stay in state or go to Texas... I don't blame him really.

Well, it won't be fed to recruits from Alabama assistants, no matter what Auburn fans want to think. That's one thing Saban won't do, is talk about another program while recruiting.

Saban may not but I can promise you that his assistants do. UA/UGA are the two programs most often mentioned by recruits when talking about which programs have been negatively recruiting against Auburn. No link so don't bother asking but this comes straight from the Tiger Hosts.

I must have missed the part where the recruit actually cited this as a reason he wouldn't attend.

What you provided had no quotes from the Westerman, only words from the author of the article.

Westerman lives in Phoenix, family may move where he plays, Phoenix & Austin > Auburn, Tuscaloosa, and Baton Rouge...or any other SEC town except Nashville.

They probably opened up the secret vault and let him read up on all the secret dirt on the program.

I bet that's what happened.

Justified or not, if I was a top recruit, I would not be considering Auburn if for no other reason than to avoid the controversy. There's just too many other good schools out there.

Meh, by the time these recruits get playing time this 'controversy' will be long gone.

Hell, Kobe arse-raped a white chick and his jersey was the number one seller one year later.

Roethlisberger was accused of rape 2 times in a year, you dont hear any mention of it now.

You do realize that every year, the hot teams get caught in shite storms like this. Last year Bama had the fishing scandal to start the year. UGA even has theirs but they have to get their controversies done with quick before you lose a few games and fall off the radar until the next preseason poll.

This year, Auburn was in the spotlight and something was uncovered. Nothing will come of it in the end if for no other reason than to avoid another USCw type situation.

If I was a top recruit, I would look at where I could go to get me to the pros or that had the very best school that I was going to study. The problem is that most of the kids don't give a shite about the school part.

Looking at the SEC:

If I were a qb I would look at UGA or Florida first depending on the depth. Bama and Vandy would probably be at the bottom of my list since neither really lets a qb shine.

Running backs would be just about any SEC program but Bama and Auburn would be towards the top.

Receiver. I would stay the frick away from Bama since even Julio doesn't get touches, but I would also steer clear of Auburn unless the depth chart cleared up. LSU, UGA and Florida would be my top three.

And the list goes on, but this is a big decision for a kid and the truth is, he hears lies from every angle. I would bet that no school tells the kid the truth about where they are. He is probably being promised a starting spot about every where that is recruiting him, at Auburn they might be telling him the truth since we lose our whole line.

I could only see the more aggressive recruiters (Sal Sunseri and Bobby Williams) doing that, and they don't even recruit the state of Alabama all that much.

I give him shite on the message boards and will continue to do so but I'm probably one of a very few Aubs that will admit that I like Saban and think he is a straight up guy. I used to wonder how he was such a good recruiter with his seeming lack of personality but I've actually listened to him a few times on his radio show and can see that I was wrong. He has a good sense of humor and doesn't mind making fun of himself. Don't get me wrong. I hope he loses every game while he is at Bama but it isn't because I don't like the head coach.

I have heard that Rodney Garner is horrendous about Auburn, very cut throat about it considering we are his Alma Mater.

He's one of those people that has a perception that his far and away different from reality, but most people that are not Alabama fans will not take the time to see otherwise. He's one of the most charismatic people you could encounter in one-on-one situations, such as recruiting.

It's going to pop up until it's completely known one way or the other for Auburn. Alabama's minor scrape with the textbook issue caused concerned with a couple of guys, so you know something this big is going to turn some kids, no matter what Auburn coaches tell them. Tennessee (Lane Kiffin) used this kind of stuff on JuWuan James last year.

It hasn't bothered most recruits at all, some have actually felt stronger about the program as they felt good that Auburn coaches were supporting Cam. Westerman likes Auburn, his father on the other hand is another story. His father has an idea of where his son should go and it isn't to any SEC school.

As one who had that very perception until my wife started making me listen to his radio show I couldn't agree more.
