Couldn’t agree more. I love what cignetti is doing with these grown arse men and I think they are unstoppable this year. I don’t think for one second that his approach works everywhere. It’s not gonna go over well with millionaire 17&18 year olds that have had their asses kissed by every coach and admin since middle school.

no one ITT has mentioned the biggest question mark about DeBoer: he’s got zero experience going into a third season at an FBS program

he improved two previously moribund teams (Fresno & UW) in two years with a combination of solid coaching, favorable scheduling, and luck

he seems to be marking time in his first two years at Bama (overlooking suffering two major blowouts in 4 weeks, after going 20+ years with only 1)

but everyone who says “give him a chance to get his guys in” are ignoring the reality that he’s never been in a situation where he’s had to do that before

thus far he’s lost 8 games (granted, those last two were postseason) abd its cost Bama $32 million just for his salary alone - thus far the ROI isn’t favorable

tl;dr - i think he’s a solid HC but likely won’t win enough to justify the cost of hiring him, and will likely leave the Capstone without an NC

Hard to tell so far. He took on a job that was impossible to meet the expectations for.

Arguably the most difficult job in the history of college football since he took Saban place.

Then again? Perhaps he benefitted from a once in a career… QB.. Michael Pennix. Just like Chizik, Fisher, Orgeron, Dabo, etc…. Maybe he is similar?

Considering he's won everywhere he's coached, hard to give one QB all the credit.

Good coach, but not Saban good. He needs a lifetime contract for support.

His apparent low key style drives me crazy.

Our most productive offensive players this year were basically transfers from his Washington team that he recruited while there.

Cuevas, Bernard, Brailsford(center) were all from Washington. Austin Mack, the back up QB and possible starter next year is also a Washington transfer, although he could get beaten out by Russell, which he recruited in last year.

As well, our next best reciever Brooks was a true freshman from last years class, and Isaiah Horton was a transfer last year.

The only 2 skill players I can think of on offense was Simpson, Ryan Williams, Jam Miller and Daniel Hill. But Williams and Hill never actually played for Saban, just recruited by.

And multiple people on our defense this year were transfers in for him. Such as Sabb, LT Overton and Domani Jackson.

If we were only having success because of Saban players, that would be one thing. But most of those players have transferred out and/or not lived up to expectations at this point.

2026 will tell the tale. He and staff are clearing the final Saban crew out now.
2026 is Kalen's team. We shall see.

he'll continue to build on this year,

Bama declined in most major statistical categories. Other than eons, what exactly did he build from last year?

He isn't great but being at Alabama will cover that up for a while.

Until it doesn't.

He seems to be a really good coach. No one will be able to dominate like his predecessor did before him, and he will always live in that shadow.

When he was first hired, I posted on this board asking Bama fans (not trolling) whether they would be OK with being "human", in other words, winning 9 to 10 games per year, and maybe realistically competing for a title every three to four years. I got laughed off the board. But that is just reality.

Also, I did not see the vast changes that have occurred over the last two years, and I don't see that anyone will ever be Saban or Smart in the foreseeable future, including Smart himself.

Isn't that who Austin Mack was supposed to be?!! And he didn't see much of the field... Even when ty was reported to be injured and possibly costing games.

If I may…losing a/multiple close game(s) during the year is easier on the stomach than getting your shite pushed in a/multiple times a year.

I disagree. Losing close games where you had chances to win is brutal. Losing to a team you know you should have beaten sucks.

Getting your arse kicked by a team that is just the better team is a lot easier to handle.

There are some stupid people here. And there are way too many who let emotion override logic.

If Deboer averages 10 wins per season and is in the hunt for a SEC title and a playoff spot more years than not, firing him would be dumb as hell. But again, many people here don’t think, they react.

not a very good sample size

again, he’s not stuck around anywhere long enough to definitively state that he can win consistently longterm

not saying he can’t, but the jury is definitely still out
