Your sec homerism is majorly showing if you think Auburn and Florida whould have run the SWC and Big 12.
The secs separation didn't start until the mid to later 2000s, Dont act like the sec had been head and shoulders better for generations because that's not true.

Wanna bet? You are stuck in 2010 - 2020 if you think Texas is going to be begging tennessee and lsu in co defense titles but I guess we will see. So far we are 0-1.
The point of what the OP posted is very true and those 4 teams you listed are not going to win 76% like they use to but I guess time will tell. Empirically theres too much parity, changes with NIL and transfer portal, and like it or not adding Texas and OU makes it harder for everyone else to win in the SEC, period
Texas and OU certainly make the SEC more difficult, anyone who suggests otherwise is a moron. The same is true of anyone who thinks OU and Texas are as successful in the SEC as they have been historically. Of the 20 programs with the most wins in CFB history 6 charter members of the SEC are included. They have been playing each other for 92 years. 6 teams and they are among the 20 best programs historically in CFB. OU and Texas have shared a conference, intermittently, with 2 teams on that list other than themselves, ATM and Nebraska.

The big 4 in the SEC (Alabama, UGA, UT and LSU, in that order) have won 76% of the SEC titles since the conference began.
This is one of the stupidest posts I’ve seen on tRant. First off, this is not even true, the total of those 4 equates to 68% of all SEC titles, not 76%… and you trying to piggy-back onto Bama’s obvious dominance of the league from a championship perspective is sad and desperate.
quote:
That is not going to change with the addition of anyone
So Tennessee, who’s now on a 27-year streak of zero SEC titles is going to “continue” to be one of the “Big 4” when it comes to SEC titles? That’s quite something. Explain how that works.
quote:
Alabama and UGA will continue to win conference titles at the same rate they always have
One of these is not like the other. You are pathetic, trying to lump yourself in with Alabama.
Georgia has a very long history and pattern of quick, short-lived periods of greatness, and then long periods of mediocrity going all the way back to pre-SEC days.
Most of the future SEC team were in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletics Conference from 1895-1921… we all moved together over to the Southern Conference from 1922-1932. And we all then broke away to form the SEC in 1933. In those days, Georgia was mostly irrelevant.
Total Conference Titles (SIAC, SoCon, SEC) 1895-1941:
14- Vanderbilt
9- Georgia Tech
7- Alabama, Auburn, Tulane
5- LSU
4- Tennessee
2- Georgia
1- Mississippi State
Georgia finally found success early in the Wally Butts era, winning SEC Titles in 1942, 1946, and 1948.
But then, as would become a theme of their program, they mostly languished in mediocrity for the next 17 seasons…. Winning just 1 SEC title between 1949 and 1965.
Vince Dooley then had early success... two SEC titles in 1966 and 1968…. Then a long 9 years without one… Then another quick burst in the late Dooley years, winning 5 SEC titles in 7 seasons.
Then another long period of floundering in the wilderness with zero SEC titles in the next 19 seasons.
And now the Smart years… 3 SEC titles in 8 seasons.
History shows that Georgia is far more likely to soon go two decades with nothing to show for rather than somehow running alongside Bama like you want to pretend to do in your mind.
quote:
Unlikely that Tennessee or LSU do not also keep pace with their historical averages.
Again, pretending that Tennessee is going to “continue” winning a title every 7 seasons when they haven’t won any in 27 is ludicrous.
LSU enjoyed the success of Saban and then surfed on that wake for the next decade… but it’s diminishing. They have now won one SEC title in the last 14 seasons. With Texas and Oklahoma in the league, and with A&M coming on strong, LSU is unlikely to keep winning an SEC title every 7.8 seasons as has been their historical average. Maybe, but if they haven’t been doing that lately, why should we believe it’s about to begin?
LSU’s success from 2001-2011 is an outlier compared to their historical norm. From 1937-2000, they won just 5 SEC titles in 64 seasons. While they were due for a run, expecting that run to become the norm is not realistic.
quote:
It is not likely that Florida will, they were bottom dwellers historically and appear to be well on their way to sharing real estate with Kentucky and the Mississippi schools once again.
This is just stupid. Florida’s success (along with FSU’s and Miami’s) can be tracked with the population boom of the state of Florida that shows no signs of slowing. Continuing the high level of success they enjoyed from 1991-2008 is not feasible, but going back to the levels of success as Kentucky and the MS schools won’t happen unless somehow the state loses 2/3 of its population.
quote:
Auburn who seems to be heading toward their natural position in the conference which is winning a title about every 8 years or so.
I agree Auburn is headed towards winning a title every 8-10 years…. But that’s going to be true of almost every major program in the SEC… not just AU.
quote:
Texas and OU will most likely win a SEC title but they are unlikely to outpace the big 4.
Texas and OU will likely just enter the rotation of Championships along with the other Big 6. Like I said, in the 44 seasons between Bryant’s last title and this most recent round of expansion, championships were distributed very evenly between the Big 6:
13- Alabama
8- Florida
7- Auburn, Georgia
6- LSU
5- Tennessee
Now we have 8, arguably 9, teams to divide the titles with NIL and the portal making it far more likely for an Ole Miss or a Missouri to sneak one in as well. There’s more teams to share the titles so they will become more rare for everyone.

Realistically right now, Bama should be winning it every other year. That's a very reasonable expectation for us.
