For your information Payscale rankings are heavily biased toward large engineering schools. As you can see from the list your own school (Emory) is ranked #206 (ranked lower than Auburn #151).

Know I'm a little late putting in my 2 cents but let me just say this. I grew up and went to school in the middle of SEC country in Atlanta but went to a non-football school, Emory. However, I now live in Texas. My son was a darn good student. Got accepted at a lot of places, including Texas and Texas A&M. I do not accept those USNWR rankings as gospel. For one thing, TAMU has more alumni who are CEOs of major corporations than any other public university in America. For another, TAMU grads earn on average more than Texas grads. Hell, they earn on average more than Northwestern grads.

If Harvard is #1, this ranking is invalid. It's all based on endowment, it's as simple as that. It's bullshite

no frickin way there are 68 better public schools than tamu. I am sure our recent increase in students has hurt our ranking.
We are now the largest university in texas (passing the longwhornes.)
The quality of education at a&m is top notch. I'm calling BS.

It's not a public university list.

Well that didn't help our case

Private as well? Still, half those fricking universities up in the NE suck. They just have "name" value. Likely a bunch of hippie profs blowing hard about gender reassignment and legalizing weed. We are a bigtime research university.
We were awarded a 2bil bio-defense grant by the government. Top 70ish universities don't win that grant.

Methinks you don't know how research grants work. If you have the right P.I. (faculty member in charge of the grant) in charge, he/she will get the grant. It's all about the science. Sure, you have to have the infrastructure in place to carry out the functions of the grant, but if you're an AAU member you have the facilities. You can be a Top 100 school, be a Tier 1 research facility and get just about any grant out there. A&M would qualify, as would Mizzou. Mizzou is on the borderline of the AAU research-expenditure-wise but being a member is a huge deal for us so I would look to see that be an impetus for us to spend more $$$ to get more top-notch faculty in place to generate more grant funds moving forward. That, however, will have next to zero impact on the US News rankings, which are mostly concerned with undergraduate admission requirements.

It is well known these magazine rankings are bogus.
How about ranking the schools by the average starting salary of the graduates? Isn't that the objective way to keep score?

It's combination of 2 factors:
1. the quality of education; and
2. how well the graduates regurgitate the communist principles they have been taught during their state-sponsered reeducation under the governing hand of the Department of Education.
We fail miserably at #2. Otherwise we would be top 10, easily.

Well, they say that 9 of the top 10 jobs coming out of college are in engineering. So if you are looking at only pay alone, A&M should top Emory because grads coming out of A&M likely do make more than grads coming out of Emory. The latter has no engineering school -- or at least it didn't when I was there. Anyway, Emory is known as a preparatory university, that is, one that prepares students for graduate school. Almost all my circle of friends went on to medical, dental or law school. Not sure how A&M would stack up against my alma mater say at the 20 year post graduation mark because of the way Emory is geared towards sending students on towards post-graduate degrees.

Also how does the school even report those stats regarding salary? UGA hasn't asked me how much money I make yet

No actually many large corporations have a nationwide pay scale. And they have hell getting people to transfer to states such as California.
Rank schools by starting salary of graduates not by what some northeast educated snob thinks.

There was a thread on this a few months back and as I recall, Vandy still topped the SEC at around $48k - $50k starting. That thread got my dick so hard cause I'll be starting my first job this coming June making almost $30k more than the average Vandy grad #Engineering #BlowinMoneyFast

Why does it feel like these rankings are released every other week?
