Yeah ok. Maybe actually learn about the mascots before making shite up.

So all three schools have some REAL tiger connection?

I don't know about Auburn and Mizzou, but LSU does.
A regiment of Louisiana soldiers distinguished themselves in the Civil War by defending their area and ferociosly fighting to protect it and were known as 'that Fighting Band of Louisiana Tigers.'
Also a squadron of Louisiana fighter pilots who distinguished themselves during WWII were known as the Louisiana Fighting Tiger squadron.

'Mike' the Tiger, LSU's live Bengal/Siberian Tiger was named after the first mascot's trainer, Mike Chambers, and who every subsquent mascot, including Mike the VI today has been honored to bear his name.

Mike the Tiger lives in his own privately-funded habitat and is cared for the world-renowned and nationally-ranked LSu School of Veterinary Medicine.

I have actually been to Mike's habitat, pretty cool. I know there is a backstory for all the mascots, including Mike and Tigers. I was really just jimmy rustling when doing the OP.

Three teams, really? No originality, no real connection to any of the schools whatsoever.

We're the fightin tigers dickwad and there's more history behind that name than any other in the sec.

Yes and named after a Revolutionary War hero, General Thomas Sumter.

Quality trolling right here. My favorite bit from the whole thread (reading through it six months later...) was the LSU fans questioning your mental acuity in not knowing the that their "tiger" was the superior mascot to the other tigers due to it's Civil War reference... ignoring the fact that Missouri's nickname has the exact same wartime reference. Their unoriginal mascot's originality isn't even original in conference... Instead of being one of three tigers their one of four plus civil war references. Wouldn't that make them less original than more so?

This is why I bumped it. Check out the LSU poster above that posted the same stuff again right after I explained my original intentions and praised Mike. Of course an SC fan also chastised me for not knowing about the Revolutionary War hero.

LSU fans...does this even warrant a retort?

Kentucky's mascot was named after Governor Beriah Magoffinwho served during the outbreak of the civil war. He was famously quoted as saying "I will send not a man nor a dollar for the wicked purpose of subduing my sister Southern States." in response to Lincolns request for Union support. They say he "fought like a wildcat" against the tyranny of northern aggression. The Kentucky Senate which was over populated with Yankee businessmen who had moved to KY to profit from trade on on the Ohio and Mississippi Rivers ultimately sided with the Union when Brigadier General Gideon Johnson Pillow drunkenly invaded Columbus, Kentucky breaking the states current state of neutrality.

All of this is fact.

All

of

it

Meh. Theirs is named after a local militia. Not a highly decorated and feared army unit. As with their SEC bona fides, they are clearly inferior to the LSU Fighting Tigers.

We derived our name from General Thomas Sumter, of Revolutionary War fame here in South Carolina, who's nickname was "The Fighting Gamecock," because of his tenacious fearless style and because he wore Gamecock feathers in the brim of his hat in battle.
