Alabama/Auburn is just another cross town/cross state rival; they have them in practically every state
I respectfully disagree. There are other states with 2 D1 teams but there isn't another in state rivalry that has had as much impact historically, as the Iron Bowl. Since it's the last game of the year, it's huge because almost always one team or the other is trying to get to the SECG and playoff and the other team is trying to ruin that.
Besides, you are talking about OU - Texas which is not an in state rivalry. It's also played at a neutral site so that neither team has to travel to the other guys' place and play in front of a huge hostile crowd. The Iron Bowl had a 50-50 ticket split for years, and was definitely intense, but when it moved to home and home it went up to 11. OU - Texas is a big game for sure but it's not more intense than Alabama-Auburn. Regardless of all that, I'm looking foerward to having you guys on our schedule.

If the earth opened up to swallow lee county and all history records of the barn it woudn't be good enough.

The Iron Bowl has produced 7 national champions and 4 runner ups in the past 15 years. Auburn alone has out produced the red river champion over the same time frame.
The Iron bowl is #1 without a doubt, but I fail to see how Alabama having a dynasty somehow makes the rivalry superior. For me the Iron Bowl is superior because of the hype, and the classic games it has produced.

LSU is not a rival. We just hate them.

Hilarious, but perhaps too subtle. Took me a second read through to see it.

I'd say Iron Bowl, Auburn-UGA, UGA-Florida are more along those lines.
Someone mentioned "battle for the Boot" (LSU-Arkansas), again no. Closest thing to a historical rivalry for LSU would be LSU-Ole Miss; more recently you could add LSU-Florida and LSU-Auburn.
It's really interesting how many 'rivalries' include Auburn.

If I’m ranking them…
1. Iron Bowl
2. Red River Shootout
3. Cocktail Party
4. Deep South’s Oldest
5. Third Saturday in Oct
6. Texas vs Texas A&M
7. Egg Bowl
That’s it. Those are the only 7 traditional rivalry games that IMO bust be saved from ever ending annually at any cost.
Bama vs LSU
Tenner vs UF
Those are great games, but they aren’t traditional rivalry games.

The rivalry is superior because it’s the only instate rivalry that exists between the Big 6+2
The league has been dominated by these programs…
SEC Titles Since 1980:
Alabama- 13
Florida- 8
Auburn- 7
LSU- 7
Georgia- 7
Tennessee- 5
National Titles Since 1980:
Alabama- 7
Florida- 3
Georgia- 3
LSU- 3
Auburn- 1
Oklahoma- 1
Tennessee- 1
Texas- 1
National Title Game Appearances Since 1998:
Alabama- 9
LSU- 4
Oklahoma- 4
Georgia- 3
Auburn- 2
Florida- 2
Texas- 2
Tennessee- 1
No other teams in the SEC appear on these lists.
Yet of the 8, Auburn and Bama are the only two teams to share a state…. And of the 7 states represented, it’s the 2nd smallest in population…. Which makes it all the more impressive we’ve both had such success in modern times.
The fantastic games and competitive nature of the rivalry the past 40+ years is just icing on the cake.
