Running.

Then running. And doing a bit more running.

Single season would be Cam or Burrow. Career would be Tebow or Wuerffel.

I'd put Young over Wuerffel, but sure.

Not for career. Danny is the most decorated QB in SEC history.

I want to say Burrow at #1 because of how insane his numbers were on top of them going undefeated and winning a national championship but I don't think there's a guy on this list nearly as valuable as Cam Newton was to that Auburn team.

Thats always my problem with the Heisman. It should go to the best player which this year, IMHO, would have been Marvin Harrison but went to the player most valuable to his team in Jayden Daniels.

And for how high the saints drafted him.... he was the worst.

Which has nothing to do with this thread.

How do you figure (unless this is just an attempt to troll)?

Marvin Harrison Jr. definitely had good numbers, but there are a lot of negatives as well:

1. Ohio State's schedule was not terribly impressive.
2. He was 9th in yards per game (11th when just including FBS games)
3. His TD totals were first, but tied for 1st with several other WRs
4. Compared to the last WR to win the award, his numbers are very pedestrian
5. In the Notre Dame game, that OSU barely won, he was very mediocre.
6. In fact, only two games could you say his production had any REAL impact on the game (Wisconsin and Penn State).

There might be other people you can argue in favor of over Jayden Daniels, but the only person who might have had a chance going into the last 4-5 games was, IMO, Ollie Gordon - but being unable to run against both UCF and Texas (when it mattered most for his team) killed any chance of him being mentioned in the same breath as Daniels, much less actually contending with him.

Daniels was, IMHO, the best player AND the most critical to what success their respective teams actually had. LSU without him is probably .500 or a game above; Ohio State's record is, probably at worst, one more loss with Harrison.

The entire NFL outside of the Mike Ditka-lead Saints knew he wasn't NFL material.

Auburn was 29th in DF+ in 2010. F+ ratings go back to 2007. No other team ranked outside the teens has won a national championship.
Yep... There's an argument anyone in the SEC west other than Ole Miss would have won a title with Cam, plus probably 2 east teams. Hard to say any other QB could have won a ship with half the SEC.

Auburn's second half defense was one of the best in the country though. Just ask bama. They only scored 3 points in the second half due to a muffed punt. Completely shut them down

On stats alone I would say Burrow, but if you consider other factors like elusiveness it would be a tie between Cam and Manziel.

Manziel with like a greased pig, running around like his hair was on fire, flinging the ball around without a care in the world.

But was a huge bust after college.

It’s hard to compare QB’s from different eras. The game has evolved in many ways to bolster passing stats.

I hate it, but for me since 1990. Ps. I gotTo see all of these play in person.

1. Cam - mainly because without him, that was a 5 or so loss team.
1a - Burrow. Burrow wasn’t a runner per se, but I’ve never seen a QB in person with better pocket presence. He was great at climbing the pocket with minimal movement. Side step to the right, move up and buy enough time to find an open receiver.
2. Daniels - similar to Cam. What would LSU’s record be without him.
3. Bryce - flames incoming, but he’s the 2nd best I’ve ever seen in person (after burrow) at working the pocket and finding time. He also had a weaker WR group than some of the others on this list and Bill OBrien as a coordinator.
4. Wuerffel - even since the 90s, the passing game has evolved significantly. Wonder what his stats would look like in a 2020’s offense.
5. Tebow - sheer will.
Last - Manziel. I think he was overrated. How many balls did he throw up for grabs and get bailed out by Evans.

For college QB - Tebow, then the rest.

Easily top:
Burrow
Newton

Really close together, but none earned award on championship team:
Tebow (leads due to winning BCS later in career.)
Daniels
Manziel

Icon of a changing game:
Weurffel

Epitome of a college QB, but may not translate to NFL:
Young

Stats don't compare, but stood out in an era of RB Heismans
Sullivan
Spurrier

QB play of the time not anything we would recognize today:
Sinkwich
