Pretty sure I've not gotten pissy over basketball. Have no clue what you're talking about here, Liz.

That's not true. Auburn and LSU are both SEC champs for 1988 as an example even though LSU beat them in the earthquake game.
Go to Google and type in, "1976 SEC criteria for football champions". Here is the AI result you will get:
quote:
n 1976, the Southeastern Conference (SEC) football champion was determined by a combination of regular season record and conference tiebreakers. Georgia and Kentucky both finished with 5-1 records in the SEC, with Georgia claiming the outright title after a head-to-head victory over Kentucky. There was no conference championship game at this time.
Here's a more detailed breakdown:
Regular Season:
The SEC champion was typically determined by the team with the best conference record at the end of the regular season.
Tiebreakers:
In 1976, when Georgia and Kentucky tied for the best conference record, the head-to-head result between the two teams was the deciding factor. Georgia had defeated Kentucky during the regular season, giving them the tiebreaker and the SEC title.
Now type in, "1988 SEC criteria for football champions".
You will see:
quote:
In 1988, the Southeastern Conference (SEC) determined its football champion based on conference winning percentage. There was no SEC Championship Game at that time.
It's almost like 1976 and 1988 were different years, and the SEC changed their championship criteria.

Kentucky caught lightning in a bottle in 1976 and was Co-SEC regular season champions with Georgia who upset Alabama that season. 1976 Georgia/Kentucky broke up what would have been an insane 9 consecutive SEC regular season championships for Alabama from 1971 thru 1979.
It's interesting that Georgia has been the biggest challenger to Alabama's two most dominant runs during the Bryant and Saban coaching eras respectively.
SEC championships from 1971 to 1982:
Alabama - 9 (shared 1981 with Georgia)
Georgia - 4 (shared 1976 with Kentucky and shared 1981 with Bama)
Kentucky - 1 (shared 1976 with Georgia
SEC championships from 2012 to 2024:
Alabama - 8
Georgia - 3
Auburn - 1
LSU - 1

"In the Pre-SEC CG era, you only had "co-champions" if they had the same conference record and didn't play each other."
Your words.
Your words.

So then none of Bama's forfeited and vacated wins count.

Yes...and in this case, the two teams DID play each other...so there were not co-champions in 1976.
Thank you for making my point for me. I appreciate you doing the leg work to help ferret out the logic in verifying that Kentucky, in fact, was not a "Conference Champion" in 1976.

Except LSU beat Auburn in 1988 (pre-sec cg era, your words) and both are co-champions. Good lord.

Correct, although I'm not sure what that has to do with this thread

Because most Bama posters say otherwise.

Vacated wins are just the NCAA's way of saying they are clueless. You can't change an outcome on a football field once it's over.

You yourself recently made a thread saying our vacated SEC title doesn't count.
