Honest answer - you gotta be able to keep good coaches to achieve what's needed. You can't be a top tier program if other teams are taking your coaches every time you have success.

The media pimps Oregon. I don’t think they are that respected by the general public or coaching community for that matter.

You will know when you get to the point where your coach doesn’t tell his 11-1 team getting ready to host a playoff game to frick OFF ! That’s the simple answer. Of course there are many factors that go into it to reach that point.

Yeah, I think everyone will be petty until a team at wins a title. I would’ve thought having a program with a new coach that gets you into the playoffs should count as a metric of success, too. For example, if Lane gets LSU into the playoffs in the first year or 2, I think that is a reasonable feat to applaud and tip your hat at, and an indication that the program is going in the right direction and should be respected. Some may disagree, though. DeBoer for perspective, I believe is the first coach in this era to get into the playoffs as a head coach of 2 different teams, however, the argument is always going to be that Alabama was already well established due to Saban so that will always be used as a detractor to DeBoer’s respective success.

Well over the last four or five years they are a more respected program than LSU with a better success rate.

All dependent on the fan base and your schools record against them.

I hate Alabama but I respect them

I don’t hate UGA, Auburn, Texas, UT or UF, but respect them based on National or SEC titles.

I don’t have as much respect for A&M, Vandy, UK, MSU, OM or Arky based on head to head vs LSU or their lack of championships in the last 20 plus years.

I guess I feel about the last group the way Bama fans feel about LSU.

If you beat my team you're respected and considered a threat. It's why LSU fans consider Ole Miss a threat and vice versa. It's why Alabama fans consider LSU a threat although they are loathe to admit it.

Bro, how many wins has LSU had vs Bama since 9-6 in 2011…it’s not loathe to admit a damn thing….there’s just nothing to admit to in the first place. WTF kind of example was that you used?

If you can't hold on to your successful coaches then you aren't to be respected. Do other programs poach your coaches? Does the slightest whiff of success cause your AD to give a coach a huge, unwarranted extension? No respect

I think your team has to win a conference championship (OR a CFP game) more than once under a single coach. And then do it again under the next coach.

The PROGRAM has to be successful under different coaches. And over several seasons.
