I live north of 70 and after the sec move I don’t even see any MU stuff or really fan representation around here. Kc and st joe have basically went to a full royals/chiefs focus and St. Louis I don’t think ever cared about anything but the cardinals. Sure people will tell you they are still fans but I would put a lot of money down that 80% of my coworkers and friends couldn’t tell you the name of MUs starting QB. It’s nothing like the chase Daniel, or Brad Smith days when everybody followed MU football
Disagree somewhat. It also coincides with the worst football/basketball period and the protesting stuff for us.

Losing the Kansas rivalry really hurt as well. People outside the two states don’t realize just how heated that rivalry was. Also the Nebraska rivalry was very underrated. I remember being in the stands in like 03 when Mizzou beat them for the first time in decades. It was probably the loudest MU game I’ve been to. I was also at the game in 2010 I think when MU beat OU for the first time ever, and that was one of the most fun games I’ve been to as well. The whole next week everybody was talking about it. That just doesn’t happen now. It’s saddening to think about for me, but most fans on here won’t admit that kind of stuff. I think the Big 10 would have fit a lot better culturally with at least Iowa and Nebraska being regional opponents.
Definitely agree (OU was just our first #1 win, not first over OU).

Are you sure? I don’t think MU had ever beaten OU at least in the big 12 era. I graduated from OU but that kickoff return for a td in that game I’ll never forget. Mizzou came out knowing they were going to win that game that day.

I just avoid Mizzou fans as they seem like huge losers whenever I see them in Nashville.
Tennessee...I don't think you have room to talk. Missouri's OWNED you in football and they've even won the SEC-East a couple of times in the short time they've been members. They don't sound like losers to me.
If you're talking basketball, you're only 8-7 against them.

Question for Missouri fans...do you call your school, "MU"? Oklahoma goes by "OU" and I think Kansas goes by "KU", right? Indiana goes by "IU". Is it personal preference or something local. Just curious.

People from Columbia and St. Louis aren't even close to the same as the people from Southern Missouri. If you didn't have a map and you drove from St. Louis to say the boot heel, you'd think you already crossed state lines into Arkansas or west Tennessee from a cultural standpoint. They have much thicker accents down there.

They were few and far between, but yeah, 1998 (Big12 started in 1994).

Greatest Mizzou game I've ever been to.

Yes. MU or Mizzou usually. I don't know how all the various names got started like that, but I suspect for us it has something to do with being different than Michigan, Maryland, or Minnesota.

Around the same time the University System was created, the Big 8 conference decided that all of its schools would be abbreviated with "U" at the end (for consistency). And to this day, all of them still do.
Unverified, but makes sense.

From southern Missouri/bootheel and it doesn’t feel strange at all to me, culturally speaking. Missouri is such a melting pot of cultures, and of fans though. Northern Missouri is much more like Iowa than where I’m from. Missouri is a crossroads.

Iowa State also? Now that place is weird.
I have no idea what kind of freak would pick Iowa State over any SEC school. That place is wack.

I attend right now and most people call it Mizzou since it sounds nice

You want to shock these Old South folks? Take them to the East Side of the Lou (say PTs in Centerville). Bet they’ve never been to a strip club with live sex on stage. Or take them to any Metro East gas station. Payout slot machines in almost every one. None of this is technically legal, but nothing is enforced around here.
