Recruiting was fun for about the first couple years when Saban came here because we were so used to Shula ball. Now it is just like "meh...another 4 star....maybe he will play as a junior."

I think most of the pay sites will be out of business within 10 years. There is recruiting information/mis-information over kill and people are already starting to become annoyed with the silliness and investing time and energy in a situation they can not (or should not) control or influence. Also, people have to feel a bit embarrassed when they realize they are so invested in the decision of a 17-19 year old stranger.
If pay sites go out of business any time soon, it will be because of the amount of information out there available for free. Fan obsession will never be the issue.

Maybe better for Alabama fans who have the most subscribers there, but what about for Arkansas, LSU, Ole Miss, and Mississippi State fans who don't have a 24/7 site?
Theyll get 247 sites as soon as their rivals sites contracts end. Thats what happened to Bama and Ohio State. Gonna happen with Michigan soon too.

I doubt fan obsession will decrease. College football continues to grow so I don't see why people would start caring less.
I also doubt the free info will put the pay guys out of business. It isn't like bleacher report is going to start hurting ESPN. It is the same way with recruiting sites. People don't have time to do in depth research unless they're getting paid for it. The guys getting paid are going to have higher quality work. The higher quality work isn't sold for free.
Beyond that the pay sites are so cheap anyhow relative to the amount of information. If you can't afford a couple bucks a month, then you're not really in their target market.

You might be right, but I disagree. I guess I will bookmark this thread and check back in 10-15 years to see if my prediction was accurate.

I don't usually follow recruiting, but when I do, I prefer Rivals.com.

Many people believed that Rivals showed Bama "bias". Now, many of those people that were employed by Rivals have founded 247. Therefore many people now believe 247 shows Bama bias. I'm not one of those people that buy into the "bias".

that guy looks a little like Ed Orgeron
I wonder what effect the NCAA cracking down on schools subscribing to recruiting sites will have? Considering the number of schools that subscribed (for large chunks of money) I would think they will have to make up that margin somehow
You can bill random people 10-20 bucks a month but you have to make up the difference with a lot of volume
And I'm not overly convinced most of the pay sites offer a lot unless they have a lot of video content on file to watch at the subscriber's leisure... all of the juicy stuff (stories) of interest ends up being discussed by all the local radio personalities etc... at least in places where there are football shows covering the school of interest
