It sounds to me--if he is going to Auburn--that he's basically hoping that an SEC school except for MSU will offer him a scholarship.

But, really, why so hush hush about the whole thing? I don't understand the secrecy.

So, he is definitely coming to visit Auburn? That's cool. He said he might. However, Auburn fans, don't you think it's a tiny bit arrogant to naturally assume he would pick you over MSU? Just because he has an offer doesn't men he'll accept.

I would not say he would definitely choose AU if offered. As stated, he has to weigh his chances of winning the starting job first and foremost. If he REALLY thinks he is that good and will just walk in and start, he may choose AU. I will say I think AU may give him a better shot at making it to the NFL simply because he will be on a better team with more weapons.

I really think it is all about making it to the NFL and he is primarily weighing (1) winning the starting position (2) the talent around him on each team.

AU would be the riskier choice IMO, but he may be extremely confident in himself.

But the bottom line is this....why go to MSU when you can go to Auburn? Think about it....

He knows the coach at MSU. He knows the offense. It's basically a guaranteed starting position.

It's not the end of the world if Newton doesn't come to MSU. Nobodies gonna sit and cry over it, but I think he would be better under Mullen. I think he would make a bigger impact on State's team.

Why go to State when you can go to Auburn? That's a little harsh. What if I said: "why go to Auburn when you can go to Alabama, LSU, or Florida?"

I don't understand why he wouldn't want to play under his former coach. Especially when you consider the spot for QB at Auburn will be competitive to say the least.

I'm really doubting whether Auburn is really interested anyway. Our coaches have made it a point that we aren't taking a QB this year. We already have so many on roster, and all of them have potential.

What sets LSU apart from Auburn? The gap there is minuscule, whilst the gap between MSU and Auburn is enormous.

I'm an Auburn fan. It hurt to read it because it's irrelevant to the situation.

Why wouldn't he choose MSU? He would be the best QB on the roster and play for the coach that he played for at Florida.

There are plenty of reasons for him to go to MSU over Auburn.

Ooooooh....I don't know, The fact they've beaten you the last three years in a row and will probably finish higher in the rankings than any team in the West except for Alabama.

Except for this most recent contest, the gap hasn't been that enormous here lately. You lost to us in 2007. You won by a point in 2008.....You have the same amount of SEC wins this season as we do. Not as far as you think.

Take the Auburn program, take the LSU program. LSU's overall football program is better by a small margin. It's been that way historically and the two programs should always be neck and neck.

Take the Auburn program, take the MSU program. Auburn is, and always has been, the better program that Mississippi State. Auburn should always be a more elite program than Mississippi State as well.

Not trying to flame, just stating what reality is.

We're not going to break down into silly squabbling here. I think he and MSU have a natural connection. He talked to Mullen before he set up his visit to Auburn. We're still in the running. We're still on his mind. Why not come to State.

If we want to go with only recent events and throw out State's absolutely putrid (and by putrid, I mean worst in the SEC) history; that's fine.

Didn't we blow the doors off of your team this year?

You're really going to hate this board if you get uptight about every negative thing someone says about MSU.
