quote:Seems that way. But something, NCAA or otherwise always seems to knock the powers down even when they look invincible. It is hard to see LSU or UA really struggling any time soon, but it always happens every few years. MSU just has to hope that Bama, LSU and maybe even AU's down cycles over lap.
the ncaa is really the only thing that can keep the big sec west schools down for any length of time right now.

I honestly believe he would have never reached his potential if Croom and his staff were still here.
Duh. Croom has the west coast offense. Mullen runs the spread. It's not rocket science that Relf would do better with Mullen. It's more about his system than actual player development

He would have never seen the field as a QB, he would be horrible in an under the center west coast system
He is a good spread QB
Why Crooms recruited him in the first place is baffling

If Dan is know for one thing, it is developing QBs and over the past 2 years he has developed Relp into a solid SEC Starting QB.
His system developed him. If we had the worst QB developer in the nation, but he ran the spread when we had Spurlock, then he would have been a much better QB

Omar Connor would have been so sick if we had Dan back then
Instead Crooms ruined him
Instead Crooms ruined him

Relf is a mid level serviceable qb that fits Merlins' system. Nothing more nothing less.
Noted. Thanks, as always, for your insightful input.

You look, population wise, I guess, and I haven’t studied this, but Mississippi and Alabama have to be the smallest populations of the SEC states.
You would be wrong Dan. Alabama has a larger population than Mississippi, Arkansas, South Carolina, and Louisiana.

Which is why I personally like Dan Mullen. If there is one thing he has shown, he will take the players he does have, and build a system around it.
It's nice to have a coach who 'gets' the college game I guess.

I never realized that Alabama had that many more people than Mississippi.

I just figured you all personally liked dan mullen becuase he can beat ole miss, and he replaced arguably one of the worst coaches in recent memory in the sec, so the bar isn't very high.

You really don't believe what you just typed do you?

You Ole Miss people really make yourselves believe this.
The fact is Croom failed at developing players, as evident to only a handful being drafted in his 5 years at State. Dan has developed the talent he inherited and also signed and turned them into SEC caliber and some such as KJ Wright, Chris White, Pernell McPhee into NFL talent.
I dont think Croom and his staff could ever develop players like Mullen and his staff has done over the past two years. We have constantly shown improvement and growth in our program since the day Mullen was hired.
So does this mean in 2008 Nutt developed Wallace, McCluster, Oher, Green, Lewis, the Jerrys, Hodge, etc into NFL talents from the winless in the SEC players that they were the year before or were they already highly talented players that had been recruited by O and just had to be utilized correctly?
Because when we were winning in 2008, State said it was all because of O's recruits... but when State wins with a lot of Croom recruits then it's because Merlins developed them.
Just because Merlins took good players who were in the wrong system and put them in a better system for their talents does not mean he developed them from terrible players into great players...
