If Alabama wanted to hire Mark Stoops, would he go or would he sit and deliberate. This is literally the exact same thing. Cal isn't going anywhere, and all this speculation is dumb, but if we wanted to hire Nate Oats, we would. Sorry boys, that's reality. This is basketball, and we are Kentucky.

It's really not the same thing because the sports are different and how many schools can win big are different. Kentucky football is also not the same level as Alabama basketball - currently or historically.

Kentucky going after Oats would obviously be worrisome, but it wouldn't be a slam dunk and it's definitely not a comparison to Mark Stoops and Kentucky Football

It takes a special kind of basketball stupid to think that UCLA is still a basketball blueblood. They may be barely above the basketball equivalent of Nebraska football.

Is Indiana still a blue blood though? This is the same discussion we have all the time with Nebraska in football.

Of course not, and UCLA sure as hell isnt. It's been 25 since they've won a national championship. Like I said...a special kind of stupid.

Indiana's roots run deeper than Nebraska does for football. Way deeper

Nebraska has more FB national championships than Indiana basketball.

To be fair at least UCLA did make 3 final fours in the mid 2000s before shite went downhill for Howland. IU as a blue blood is definitely not the case.

I have absolutely no idea who those guys are. Are they boosters? But sure. Let's go with that.

I evolved my position. Nate Oats was a net positive for Alabama Football. I do acknowledge this. If he were to leave now, I'd rank him up there with Wimp Sanderson simply for what he did for football recruiting.

You’re the worst kind of fan.

Yes. The kind of fan who gives back to his alma mater and the athletic department he loves so deeply. The absolute worst!

A moron because he doesn't know anything about basketball or the supposed names of boosters (Mark Gottfried?). I'm sorry I don't think that qualifies him as a moron. Ignorant? Possibly. But moronic? That's a stretch.

No a moron for running into every basketball thread and yelling "guys i don't like or care about basketball" and then saying things like "i dont care if oats leaves" in the same breath as saying "being good at basketball helps recruiting"

It is just moronic and questionable behavior.

Oh and also referring to yourself as he / him in the prior post

And yet he is able to communicate eloquently while also getting under the skin of people. It's almost like he's trying to rile people up and (most likely) doesn't mean the things he says. Perhaps he's playing a character in these basketball threads because it's what people expect of the stereotypical Bama fan?

Maybe there is a method to his madness? Though it could also be true that he is indeed a moron. I feel like the jury is still out on this subject.

Whatever you say buster; however, if all of that is true, you completely broke character and the well-crafted facade as soon as someone labeled you as what you were pretending to be.

It's Holy Week. The whole point of the season is to be sincere and kind to your enemies.

So are you saying Pearl would definitely leave Auburn if Kentucky offered him the job? I actually don’t think it is a slam dunk.

I am 99.9% sure both Oats and Pearl would leave for Kentucky.

Kentucky is the best of the best. It’s the most prestigious job now and forever.

Eddie Sutton said the worst mistake of his life was leaving Arkansas for Kentucky.

100% this. Is UK basketball viewed in the same sense as Bama football nationally and in the conference? Sure, they have a legitimate shot to sign the best players and win a championship every year, but, to compare basketball to football is silly. It’s much easier to turn around and sustain a basketball program with 13 scholarship players and a 64 team championship field. Oats’s two season at Bama are a great example. It’s not a must to be at a top 25 program to be able to compete for basketball championships.

I’m not saying any of that because I don’t think Oats would consider leaving for UK. It’s one of the best, if not the the best, college level coaching jobs in basketball, and any coach would have to consider it. But to assume any given coach would absolutely leave their current position for UK is being a little overzealous.

For the record, I don’t think Bama could definitely pull any football coach they wanted either. Would they listen? Of course. But would they come to Tuscaloosa? Matter of circumstances, I suspect.
