Well, no.
Because you use the term "falling" in a present tense, it implies a continuous movement. For this to work, Alabama would have to tumble from 1 to 3 for your statement to makes sense. Alabama fell 1 spot. 1+1 = 2
For your statement to be correct, you would have to say Alabama FINISHED 2x lower than they started; in this case, #1 x 2 = #2.
Much like this:
A person who weighs 200lbs and loses 100lbs, they lost 50% of their weight.
If that same person gains it back, then they gained 100% of their current weight; but only 50% of their original weight.
