I think your #2 option is the best way. New teams want to join the SEC? OK, but they had better expect to be put through the ringer starting in season 1.
I feel like college football is so manipulated these days, that it wouldn't surprise me if Sankey and ESPN gave Utx an easy schedule to ensure they make it to the playoffs in their first season in the conference.

It's always been that way, but it's worse now because they beat Alabama and have had some success. They had a better roster last year and still lost. Kinda like Tennessee always losing to Florida even when it has a better roster.

"Texas is back" is not new ask anyone in the Big-12 we heard it ever year with the same results.
