We’re going to be really bad next year unless Josiah James is a lottery pick. Our recruiting class for next year is filthy though

Bama’s defense was pretty good under Avery his 1st 3 years......and he for damn sure wasn’t a good coach

Agreed but that doesn't really take anything away from Mike's ability to have great defensive teams. That isn't just luck on his part. As I already said though, his teams need to get better on the offensive end.

I think we will be better than this next year, but understand why we are ranked so low

Hope we can get an immediate eligibility waiver for Vanover, having a guy that is 7'3 and can hit threes could go a long way for frontcourt depth.

It would make a much smoother rotation as well. I tried to find something on his wavier but doesn't look like anything is even pending regarding him.

I mean, Gators has Georgia at #11 (which is perfectly reasonable) and they have possibly the #1 pick in the country being added to a team with decent pieces.

Georgia will finish higher than 11th in league. We didn't just add Edwards and a bunch of nobodies. The other recruits we added and the graduate transfer pg really addressed one of our big weaknesses last season. We didn't have a lot of guys that could handle the ball last year. When a big is your best ball handler you got issues. This year we added Anthony Edwards who is considered a 1 and done guard who has handles and can dominate a game. We added 3 top 100 forwards which may or may not contribute a lot but should provide much better depth than we have had in years and we added a transfer PG and a recruit PG that was a 4 star. I think we finished 9th in recruiting so we have a big influx of talent. That said, it wouldn't shock me if we still aren't a tournament team. I also think Toumani Camara is going to be a star.

We weren't on the bubble in 2017-2018. We were a sixth seed for frick's sake

The offense has left a lot to be desired and White's not a strategical genius there or anything but it's going to be hard to not score points with Locke and Mann shooting, Lewis and Keyontae slashing, and Blackshear scoring in the post. This team hasn't had a legit post scorer since Patric Young. I'm not even really sure I'd count Egbunu

All of those guys are great... That frontcourt is still bottom-of-the-league quality, though. The "bigs" are Amanze Ngumezi and freshman Rodney Howard. I guess Hammonds will be playing almost exclusively small ball four but it's still a team that's going to get pushed around on the glass.

Y’all were until last 3 games of regular season. Then Y’all beat A Depleted Auburn, a collapsing Bama, and UK(legit win here)

Good list, I dont know if I'd have us at 3 right now, maybe 4-5 range, because we a have huge question mark at center (Watford is a stretch 4) we are trying to fill still. Probably put MSU ahead of us roster wise for now.

I think LSU has more depth and leadership than MSU, who has a really good starting five on paper but doesn't have a ton of depth. And, also MSU hasn't really come together as a team the past few seasons and has played a bit below their talent level, and I really don't think Q Weatherspoon is gonna be the "addition by subtraction" type. Quite the opposite.

LSU's got question marks down low but 1-4 it's probably the best non-UF/UK roster in the conference imo

We were never really on the bubble. Those games took us off the 8/9 line

This is a strange narrative because the last time that White had a roster as well-rounded as this one he went 14-4 in conference and made the Elite Eight

Yeah, that ranking is pretty much just giving Barnes the benefit of the doubt. Plenty of teams would love to have your backcourt anyways (5* freshman, senior Lamonte Turner, senior Jordan Bowden). The frontcourt looks fricking terrible but perhaps Fulkerson and Kent can be okay -- the backcourt is at-large quality

Always enjoy your basketball posts.

I imagine this will be another season with as much unpredictability as recent ones where a couple of teams from the 9-13 lines end up in the top 5 and a couple of ones in the top 6 preseason near the bottom.

Almost every SEC team has enough quality roster pieces to be optimistic.

Should be a fun year.

Also:
To answer the question about open spots: Alabama is still hoping Villanova transfer PG Jahvon Quinerly will be eligible to play immediately.

Thanks!

And, yeah, I'll update OP if any school gets a transfer immediately eligible. Quinerly for Bama, Vanover for Arkansas, Harvey for Vandy, etc.

Every team except Miss State and maybe Auburn and Missouri will have better backcourts than frontcourts.

I don’t feel too confident in anyone’s big men outside of a few guys. Should be a really fun league overall.

Tennessee’s front court has a chance to be all time hilarious with all these big whites and foreigners. Could be the worst frontcourt I’ve ever seen at Tennessee if there aren’t serious steps taken. ORN is the only one I have real hope for tbh. Have heard good things about him. Kent is one of the most mysterious players ever. Everyone says he can really shoot it but he is reaching mythical status in that no one seems to have ever seen him play. He didn’t even practice with the team last year and has appeared in one game in 2 years. Fulky you have to think could get better as he was very promising 3 years ago and was starting over Williams and Schofield as a true frosh before his injury, but unfortunately some guys never bounce back from stuff like that.

I think Tennessee will probably need 55-60 a night from James/Turner/Bowden/Jalen Johnson to win games.

I wouldn't be surprised if Pons and Johnson play a bunch of small ball four with Fulkerson at C.

Kent's been in the program for the longest so I gave him the starting nod but it'll be interesting to see who eventually plays those minutes early in the season
