I know that the SEC is much tougher in FB than the ACC, but if GT and Wake Forest can compete on occasion, shouldn't Vandy be able to?

They are an academic school first and so that will never change. Expectations are a little higher now for Vandy than in previous years. I can see them go bowling every 3-4 years but certainly not ever a contender.

I mean, Stanford and Cal-Berkeley have had some good FB teams through the years. They're in a much easier conference, and have more history of success than Vandy though

I don't think so. Washington refers to themselves as the Dawgs and they're about as southern as Miami.
