Plain and Simple, Bama Blew It - Auburn Fans Take Notice

Nothing but spin going on here in Bama. Everyone is saying how proud they are and how they are ahead of schedule. Shows where expectations are for this program. An SEC West title is enough. Auburn fans are trying to razz Bama fans a little for going 12-0 and not winning any hardware and Bama fans won't hear it. They say 36-0 as though Auburn has never beaten them. This is the same fanbase that ridiculed Auburn mercilessly when they went 13-0 in 2004 (winning the SEC) and got left out of the National Championship Game. Now, Bama fans are full of excuses over their choke job.
Here are the facts: Alabama was 15 minutes away from playing for the National Championship. Saban preaches dominating for 60 minutes and Bama laid a big egg. They had the ball for almost 11 minutes in the 3rd quarter and dominated Florida. They had momentum. Their defense was rested. They come out in the 4th quarter and roll up ONE whole yard of total offense while allowing Florida to control the ball for 10:55 and score 14 unanswered points.
Maybe they were ahead of schedule. But, 15 minutes away from the national championship game? That doesn't come along every year. Just ask USC. They have had top recruiting classes every year and they have ONE BCS National Championship to show for it. ONE. And that was in 2004. Seniors are graduating this year who will never have won a national championship at USC. It is much harder than people make it out to be.
Bama fans, spare me the garbage about how Bama did better than LSU and Auburn this year. Please. These two teams had a combined 11 game winning streak over you before this year. Your pathetic play over the past decade never stopped you from critiquing us and diminishing our accomplishments, constantly calling every success we've had into question, even while we beat you senseless every year. So, what goes around comes around.
The truth is, this is likely the closest that Alabama will get to the national championship game and you blew it. Ask Georgia. Ask Texas. Ask USC, Penn St., Auburn, etc. Even Ohio St. who has gotten there multiple times has lost the last two years.
The board is dead right now. I thought I'd liven things up with a little smack. Enjoy.

Predictable responses from Alabama fans so far. I admit that we had a subpar season this year. Since we heard constant ridicule from Bama fans last year when we WON the SEC and National Championships (something that you can barely remember doing), I figured that you could hear a critique of your epic failure when it counted most.
If Florida had blown you out, they would have been the better team. But, you were leading going into the 4th quarter and had the game in hand. Then, you choked. And, you'll likely never get this close again.
7-5 was not pleasant for us. But, we won the BCS National Championship last year, so I can live with it. You went 7-6 last year and lost to ULM. This year, you have nothing to show. I'd rather be in our shoes because I know for a fact that future success for Bama is far from guaranteed.
Saban doesn't do so well without a proven QB. Look at LSU's 2004 team for an example. The year AFTER we won the NC, we were ranked #3 to start the season and were loaded with talent. Without a proven QB, we struggled all year and went 9-3 with a loss in the Capitol One Bowl. This was with Saban, Jimbo Fisher, and Will Muschamp coaching. I predict similar things for Bama next year.
Face it: You had your chance and if you see it again before Saban bolts for Notre Dame, I'd be shocked. You need to quit congratulating yourself on your great season and recognize that you blew the best chance you'll likely ever have no matter how much talent you stockpile in Tuscaloosa.

why cant everyone stop all these stupid posts. Why must Lsu fans(and all other fans) continue to belittle bama, and why must bama always have to live in the past. Sure I don’t want bama to win, but hey, it wont affect me if they do. Bama had a great year and their only loss came to FL. If I were a tide fan, I would be really proud of my team, and I would be saying “the future looks great. Were ahead off schedule” You cant hold bama against that.

no excuse but the face mask penalty completely screwed us. that was the point I saw it turn. We would hve had them 4th and 3 punting to us instead It gave them a first down and they eventually scored on the drive. We still had a chance to move the ball after that but we didnt.
As for the team I am very proud to be a bama fan. You are 7-5 we are 12-1 with a chance to be 13-1 after the Sugar Bowl. We have another great recruiting class coming in and another year under Saban's Tuteledge (much better developer of players than Miles) We will be back, don't you worry bout us. It seems to me I would worry about LSU moving forward than anyone else

I think this might have been a historically epic choke job by Saban. How many teams in the history of SEC football and the SEC Championship game went undefeated in the regular season and lost in the championship game. I am having a hard time remembering one.

I think most Bama fans are proud of this team for going 12-1 when most folks, including myself thought they would only win 8 or 9 games. Florida is just a better team right now.

LSU has another top class. we aren't just going to fade off to no where. even if les was to shite out another 7-5 year. we have so much talent stocked up that once we bring in a new coach we would be right back to winning. Fwiw i think LSU bounces back just fine next year with a new dc and with some angle for revenge. This type of thing happened in 02 and 04. 02 was a qb injury and being happy with a sec title. then 04 was just the team was happy with what it had done the previous year. I saw a little of both in this year. the qb thing like 02 and the lack of giving shite like 04

2008 Alabama team will be remembered as the only SEC team to go undefeated and not win the championship. Any way you spin it, its not such a great thing to be remembered for.

Wow, you must be bored. It is always one sided in these arguments with some people. Auburn fans have never made fun of us or LSU fans have never made fun of us huh? It happens every day. Every fan base makes some sort of an excuse at some point in time. I've heard plenty of excuses spewing all over this board from other fans as well as ours. That will never change. BTW, I am very proud of the team and there is nothing wrong with fans feeling that way. We have came a long way. Oh yeah, can you see into the future about NC games and who is going to be in them?

And if you think Bama fans are in denial about being happy about this season, you're an idiot. Alabama hasn't had more than 10 wins in a season since the early 90's. Add to that that the expectations were 8 or 9 wins this year...Of course we're pleased with the season.
As far as whether or not we'll be in this position in the near future....we'll just have to wait and see.
