Definitely the game that should have been played. OU had no business there, losing 35-7 in their CCG (if I remember right).

For someone to compare the Bama schedule to ANY NFL schedule is asinine. You can literally lose to anyone on any given Sunday.

It's immaterial whether Carrol is a better coach than Saban. Argument is pointless. Carrol being a better coach because he's winning in the NFL does nothing to Sabans legacy or his current football teams. Nothing more than rhetoric by LSU and other fans to convince themselves Saban has to leave to prove himself in the NFL.

No, because winning in the NFL isn't harder, it's just different

Not that I completely agree, but Bill Callahan and Dave Wandstadt seem to back up your point.

Toss out the score to the most recent game and you could make the case that Jim Harbaugh is better than Saban or Carroll... He's done an amazing job at the last two places he's been and done it pretty quickly, both Pro and College

Saban can do 2 things in college that Carroll never did.

1. Win NC's.

2. Win without cheating.

Give me Saban everyday for my coach over Carroll.

I won't argue that. Harbaugh is an extremely impressive coach.

Yeah, good point. Harbaugh is very solid without a talent advantage (except last night).

Wow, ok.

The NFL is professional football. No cupcake FCS teams to play. No picking and choosing who to recruit. Your cupcake games in the league are still against professional football players.

I can't believe this is even being discussed.

I actually wanted to start a thread similar to this earlier.

As much as i dont like pete carroll, i do have a new found respect for him. The guy is doing it at the next level. Saban cannot say that.
For the Bama fans, you guys better hope this comparison talk between the two coaches dont get to be too much for ole Nick. He will bolt to do as Carroll has done.

Harbaugh actually might have the most talented team in the NFL right now. The most impressive thing to me about Harbaugh is the way he's developed QBs. From his San Diego State days with Josh Johnson to Andrew Luck to Alex Smith to Colin Kaepernick, he always seem to find a way to get great production from his QBs. The only coach who does as good of a job making his QBs look good is Mike Shanahan.

How many here, at the collegiate level, would rather have Carroll over Saban?

Boom.

College/NFL is apples and oranges and it's silly to compare the two. Recruiting is such a huge part of college ball and NFL coaches have very little control over who they "recruit", other than at their spots in the draft. There are many other differences but this one stands out.

boom what? You didn't even answer the question in the OP

Eta I hope you're not insinuating that a NFL coach couldn't step down and recruit a high level

Maybe but why would he take the Browns job? Weeden was a first round pick. For better or for worse, the Browns are stuck with him for the next couple years. Why not wait for a job to open up with a talented, young QB in place like the Lions or Panthers?
