Nah pretty sure he's a pretty successful head coach in the NFL

This is plain dumb
PETER CARROLL
a meh pro coach and got fired for it, came to college and built a dynasty (however legitimate you choose so see it) and then returned to the NFL and is doing quite well.
NICK SABAN
great college coach, left for the NFL. A meh pro coach and quit because of it, came to college and built a dynasty. It would appear that he will not follow Carroll to the NFL and attempt Wooden/Bryant level feats at the college level.
I do feel like if Saban chose to leave Alabama for the pros, while I wouldn't like it, he'd have a much better run than in Miami half a decade ago.

It's about coaching style. Carroll preaches playing loose, Saban preaches preparation and execution. Mark Richt would make an excellent NFL HC, and so would Miles.
Mark Richt maybe but I don't think Les Miles would be a good NFL coach until he changes his offensive philosophy. He's way too conservative on offense and his QB evaluation and development leaves a lot to be desired. It's really hard to win in today's NFL playing LSU brand of football unless you have a really exceptional organization like the Steelers. You need to have a good QB to be successful. Saban found that out the hard way with the Dolphins.

FIFY.
For me, I hope Saban feels like a complete and utter failure at the NFL level and never wants to return

Explain how Carroll's first stint in the NFL was "much worse" than Saban's.
Carroll won a division title. Saban never even sniffed the playoffs.

Well if you want to get technical Saban's first stint in the NFL lasted only 2 years and Pete Carroll's first stint lasted 3....
You do the math

To compare NFL to college has been very hard for sometime now. In the pros your roster is limited and the game is much faster. In college you have a multitude of styles of offense and defense that you face week in week out.
To say say one is harder than the other is stupid. Remember when the Seahawks went 7-9 and made it to the playoffs? If that was a college record your arse would be sitting at home.
There a coach that I know of that actually did fairly well in the pros, got fired, went to college, did shitty, got fired and is now the offensive coordinator for the Dolphins. A&M time for you to chime in.

I don't know much about Carroll's tenure with the Jets but I do know that he took over a Patriots team that went to the Super Bowl the previous year and that they got progressively worse every year he was there.

No, because winning in the NFL isn't harder, it's just different
By no means am I saying Carroll is better than Saban but this statement is absolute bullshite. Elite college programs have a distinct advantage in attracting the top talent, have some control over who their opponents are and in some case play 2/3 of their games at home. With a league mandated schedule, an even split of home and away games, a draft that awards picks to teams in reverse order of their wining percentage and a salary cap, the NFL's goal is to create parity.

Last year I watched the Saints on Sunday and then immediately after a rerun of LSU. I think we can agree that 2011 LSU was as fast they come in CFB. The closing speed of pros was glaringly apparent. They are all fast. Physically NFL > CFB. It's just a different game.

This is the dumbest fricking statement I've ever seen on this board.

Definitely in the top 5, which is impressive as hell.

Yes so Coach Saban will retire at Bama DWI

I love these threads.
It's immaterial whether Carrol is a better coach than Saban. Argument is pointless. Carrol being a better coach because he's winning in the NFL does nothing to Sabans legacy or his current football teams. Nothing more than rhetoric by LSU and other fans to convince themselves Saban has to leave to prove himself in the NFL.

Well I am pretty sure this is Pete carrols first winning season in the NFL since being back. Nick Satan had a winning season and a losing one, then wanted back into the college game.
Nick is definite ly the better college coach, not even close. Can you hinesly say Pete Carroll is a great nfl coach? 7-9 7-9 10-5 that's not too amazing.

Carroll is by far the better coach
If you believe Carroll is a better coach than Saban, will you admit that USC was a better team than LSU in 2003? USC had a superior QB and a more talented team than LSU in 2003. Take away the coaching advantage and explain to me how LSU would beat USC that year.

Saban knows he has to have much better players than other teams to win consistently. All the talk about liking college kids, etc. is hogwash. He simply isn't confident in himself to win consistently with a level playing field.
