Long arse read.. but the UK fans need to stfu :P LINK It's biased.. as it's a KENTUCKY source.. but it has details :)
Interesting read. The section I quote below which addresses payments to players also implicates Paul Bear Bryant as much as Rupp. Apparently, giving players some walking around money was pretty commonplace back then, i.e. the Michigan St. example. Most of the material was from a statement made by Judge Streit and was never proven in a court of law. That should be remembered.

As far as payments to players, Rupp testified and admitted that he did provide some cash to players after playing well in games, in particular as part of the Sugar Bowl trip. When asked about the source of the money, Rupp stated that it came from excess monies that had been collected to send additional team members to the 1948 US Olympic games in London England. This was confirmed by University officials, who had knowledge of the payments and considered the monies acceptable, given that football players at the time were regularly afforded similar gifts for participating in Bowl games. (including, as noted by UK President Herman Donovan, former LSU coach and current SEC Commissioner Bernie Moore himself.)

At Kentucky, basketball is king.

No surprise they get top talent year in and year out.

I am not a JC fan but he's a good coach.

Tigerfan56, this may b the most honest post ever on here and what I have been telling people forever. If you are competing at a high level there is some stuff going on. Cash to get kids in, money while they're there, grades being fixed, whatever.
The NCAA USED TO find a big name every now and then and nail them just to say hey dont forget we are here. That ended with the current regime. Now it is try to find a reason not to penalize. I remember the NCAA used to say all the time they didn't need proof, they didn't have subpeona power. David Swank would read his statement and say "it is the BELIEF of this committee". Had he been the chair during Cam Newton he would have never taken another snap at AU after allegations came to light. Now the NCAA says they need proof. Its probably dirtier now than its ever been. I know this, Cal has a helluva team and they aren't on probation. If you think your team isn't doing ALL they can to get good players and take care of them then you probably also dont believe that good ole America doesnt torture and kill our enemies either.

"Not because of him"? B.ball rosters have 12-13 players on it. In both cases, it was not only his best player, both were #1 players in the country. He didn't know what Derrick Rose was up to???? Yea, right.

By it's own admission it was written by a Kansas basketball "historian" No bias there

It is always funny how the UK hit articles come from folks in places like Kansas and North Carolina (NYC corridor for Duke) yet they never report the realities in their own back yards.
