McElroy had a career effort in last week's 35-21 loss at South Carolina. He completed 27-of-34 passes for 315 yards (a career high), two touchdowns and no interceptions. But he was sacked seven times for minus 28 yards? McElroy fumbled on a sack in the first quarter, which led to South Carolina's third straight touchdown and a 21-3 lead.
In the fourth quarter, trailing by 7, McElroy was sacked for a 7-yard loss to take the Crimson Tide out of field goal range, leading to a failed fake field goal.
"We had sacks because we held on to the ball," Alabama coach Nick Saban said. "Probably five of those sacks we had ample time to throw the ball and we tried to create plays. I'm not being critical of Greg ... he tried to create plays by moving around and scrambling in the pocket and then got sacked. Two times we did not do things the way we needed to do them, and he got quick pressure and got sacked early. Everybody could have done things better."
CBS Sports analyst Gary Danielson, who called the game, said Thursday morning not all sacks are equal, and not all seven can be pinned on McElroy. But he was critical of the third-down sack in the fourth quarter.
"There are different types of sacks," Danielson said. "Some are the quarterback's responsibility. Some are the coach's responsibilities, and some are the offensive line's responsibilities. And sometimes there are better defensive systems than your system. ... I thought Greg tried to get way too much out of the play before the fake field goal. He really hurt his football team."

Greg McElroy has not lost a game as a starter in 6 days.

BM you are guilty of that old adage "If I stand in the desert everyday and say it's going to rain eventually I will be right." McElroy had a bad day. He did hold onto the ball to long. Did this tendency just all of a sudden appear, or is pressure to create big plays being forced by the coaching staff? We probably will never know but everyone on that team and staff has earned a get out of jail free card in my opinion.

Y'all look. Bench McElroy started another thread about McElroy. What are gonna do in two months when he's gone? You won't have shite to post. Which starter are you gonna talk shite about next year? Bench Richardson?

I also liked the subtle shot Danielson took at McElwain by saying sometimes there are better defensive systems than your system. Even the announcers are starting to notice how comically overrated this guy is as a OC.

How many times has McElroy thrown that many passes, isnt he supposed to be a game manager kind of QB?
I know Bama deviated from the usual game plan...

As soon as McElroy graduates and McElwain leaves for a HC job or gets fired by Saban, I'll be one of the biggest kool-aid drinkers on these forums. I usually am pretty positive about Alabama football except in regards to those two.

We won a fricking NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP with them!!!! What the frick else can you ask for? Would you rather go back to JPW and Applewhite?

See, this is the problem. Alabama fans are content with having a sluggish, boring offense. It's been drilled into them since the '92 NC. Yes, McElwain and McElroy is a better combo than JPW and Applewhite. So what? McElwain and McElroy are still extremely mediocre at what they do. There's a ton of talent on this team on offense and they're holding this team back. I'm pissed off watching a WR like Julio getting wasted running nothing but five yard routes and catching a bunch of WR screens. I'm pissed off watching this team struggle moving the ball through the air even though the offensive line is pretty solid and the wide receivers are better than average. I'm pissed off watching this team struggle in the red zone with the best running game in America, be completely incapable of converting on third and long and fail to sustain drives consistently whenever we go up against SEC competition. I'm pissed off at all the fans defending McElroy and McElwain when this team has underachieved immensely on offense in relation to its talent level. That's why I'm very angry. If that makes me a negative fan, then so be it.
