The Rebels finished ranked third in the final AP poll. If this is true, how do they claim the 1962 national title?

You do realize that other polls outside the AP have named national champs, right?

They don’t claim it. A poll awarded it to them.

Ole Miss has No national championships. Anything pre-1997 or whenever first BCS nati was is determined by AP poll. Ole Miss never finished first in AP poll. They claimed 2 3rd place finishes as a nati and a 2nd place finish as a nati. But by most ppl standard, they have none.
