Slive said most SEC schools continue to support sticking with eight conference football games in the current 6-1-1 model. The Big Ten has said it's switching to nine or 10 games, joining the Pac-12 and Big 12 with more than eight.

"Obviously, in order to be innovative and creative and thoughtful and ahead of the curve, it's our job in the conference office to think ahead," Slive said. "So we might be thinking ahead. But right now the overwhelming majority of folks want to stay at the 6-1-1."

Does it begin with L and end with U with a S in the middle?

Well. This is embarrassing.

There is only one reason they will go to 9 games.

Alabama speaks, SEC office listens and does accordingly. Must protect cakewalk SEC schedule year in/year out now.

This is nothing new. The "rivals" want to keep their games and the Mississippi schools like their cellar dwellers.

Clearly this is the result of Bama controlling every SEC athletic department besides LSU.

I'd prefer a nine game conference schedule with the permanent opponent. I don't want to not have the Florida game every year. But I want to see more than one rotating team on the schedule.

And LSU fans keep crying.

LSU fans would be okay with 6-1-1 if they didn't have to play Florida every year.

It's all fun and games to pump up the 6-1-1 schedule...that is, until an SEC team gets edged out of the 4 team playoff by a major conference team that plays 9-plus conference games and has (in the eyes of the selection committee, at least) a stronger strength of schedule.

I can see it now: "SEC Team XYZ only played 8 conference games---AND they played South Carolina State!".
