Gretzky, Tiger and Lebron have my respect because of all the hype they before they even played a game. And lived up to it.

Gretzky is so far and above the greatest at his sport for the reasons stated above.

Personally, I think Tiger is the greatest golfer ever but at least Nicklaus can be debated

LeBron is not the greatest basketball player ever but he definitely would be the starting five on the all time team

I think he has let the noise get to him and it makes him difficult to play with or coach. Organizations bend over backwards to get him on board, but that's not how team sports are supposed to run. All of the sacrifices made at Cleveland for LeBron made it harder to get others onboard. Everyone knew it was LeBron's team. Kyrie dipped because of it. K-Love was willing to significantly change his role/style to play there, and now his career is pretty much done.

He missed the 93-94 season then came back.
Then retired in 97 and came back in 2000.

He was probably the closest in that time (I was talking about among todays players), but didn't come close to Gretzkys scoring numbers of 70-90 goals 5 years in a row. Or his assist numbers.

If Wayne Gretkzy scored 0 goals in his entire career he'd still be first all time in NHL points history.

I could not remember how long it was for but knew he dealt with multiple back injuries and cancer. IIRC correctly he was inducted in the NHL Hall of Fame during his 1st retirement and then came back.

And yes I doubt he would have ever caught Gretzky but think he could have gotten the closet barring all the medical issues. I think he is up there in many records probably just behind Gretzky.

Yes, no QB in history has done more with less on the offensive side of the ball.

Nicklaus can be debated? Seriously?

Not only does Nicklaus have four more majors, he blows Woods out of the water with 17 second place finishes compared to only seven for Woods. The argument can also be made that Nicklaus won all of those against far superior competition...Palmer, Player, Trevino, Langer, Ballasteros, etc.

There is no debate.

Why shouldn't he get credit? Saban gets credit for winning with 5*s boosters pay for. Without a talent advantage he is average to bad (in some games). You could put 10 other coaches in his place and they would win more.

How does a thread about Gretzky and Brady turn into Saban sucks and is overrated?

There is a serious debate for Tiger & Jack. Did Jack ever hold all 4 majors at one time? Did he ever win 25 events in a 4 year run? 142 straight tournaments without getting cut. Fields are much deeper now in this era than in Jacks. Obviously the top top guys back then are legends but you plop a prime Tiger in that era and I bet he finishes with more majors than all of them.

Not at all. Like you said...the top guys back then were legends. Who was Tiger's biggest competition? Mickelson? Seriously?

Tiger has more wins than Jack already

Really the only thing that held Tiger back was five back surgeries. But injuries are part of the game

IMO Tiger is the greatest golfer of all time.

With Jack and Tiger playing the same amount of tournaments Tiger kind of dusts Nicklaus

But yea there is debate between the two

Bill Russell. MY frickING arse.

The guy played with like double figures of hall of fame players.

Bill Russell getting all the credit for that dynasty is a joke. I don't think as much of Brady as others but I would put Brady above a Russell

Bill Russell wouldn't even make the starting five of an all time NBA team

You are an idiot.

These are team sports. Brady didn't win these championships. Hell, his defense and kicker deserves more credit for at least half of them.

No different than Bill Russell except Bill Russell has to borrow someone else's hand to hold all of the rings.

Tom Brady is the luckiest POS in the history of the world. You could put 10 other QB’s in his place and give them everything he’s ever gotten,

Sort of true even though you are down voted so much.

You talking top 10 best qbs? Then for sure. Brady has played on some great teams, especially defensively in big moments.. Great great great coaching.

The Patriots play in such a horrific division that it's an auto-pass to the playoffs.. often a #1 type of seed.. so therefore they only have to win 2 games and they are in the Super Bowl.

Brady has won and lost a bunch of Super Bowls, because they are always there. He is very good, but no way he has that type of success outside that team.

If you switch Brady and Brees, Brees has as many Super Bowls wins IMHO.. and Brady may have maybe 1 championship?? If that really..

He's a great great great QB though. One of the best all-time. But best sports player ever? I don't think so.

If it’s based off winning titles he is up there on the list for sure. Roger Federer is tops in his sport
