That was tongue in cheek but our mens team is playing much better. When in doubt, have your girls talk smack to your mens team.

What would it take for our mens team to find a way into the Ncaa?

Play first half Alabama game defense vs. the rest of your opponents.

Our mens team is playing solid defense. This going for 20-25 3-point shots when we are terrible at it cost us games. Everyone thought we'd be much better shooting those this year but we are at the bottom of the league doing so.

If that is what it took to motivate them, then I am glad. Because something is different. Effort! That is for sure.

The odds are not in our favor. Thanks to our garbage OOC schedule setup by I assume Howland? And this cannot be overstated enough. Compare it to any other SEC Teams.

That said this team can win its way to the NCAAs without winning the SEC Tournament. But going one and done in the SEC Tournament is a no no.

Winning Big in February is a must. It shows that State is a hot team. The committee values teams flourishing in February rather than teams that looked good in January but are digressing.

Looking at the schedule here is what we must win:
@ Vanderbilt
Ole Miss
SOuth Carolina
@ LSU

That is to avoid not a bad loss but one where you should win looking at your winning streak. But the SEC is tough. ANyone can beat anyone and that is not cliche. Look at ALabama losing to Vanderbilt but beating AUburn. Incredible fun league.

Ok now we need quality wins
@ Missouri
@ Texas A&M
Tennessee

Is it too much to ask for 2/3 there? Maybe so but that might be what needs to happen. 1/3 is pushing it for me because that means we have the possibility of having only 1 quadrant 1 win. We need more Quadrant 1 wins and this is our best shot.

Those are my thoughts. And maybe this is more of me breaking down our best chance beyond Dayton, but I think our weak NC SOS is going to hurt more than we realize. There is no set number of wins, but the short answer is just don't lose and your in. Easier said than done, but the team has done that the past 4 games.

Edit: timing is everything too. If we can only win 1/3 of the quality games I said earlier, it should be Tennessee. That ensures a 3 game winning streak going into the SEC Tournament. Which I believe you need to win just one game at that point. And then from there, every extra win is a higher seed.

I think the word you were looking for was "regressing"; but I digress.

Your women's team is correct. They are pretty good.

Minimum of 5 more regular season wins. Probably need 6.

Teamrankings says you have 37.1% chance with 23 wins and a 72.8% chance with 24 wins.

Our RPI is 50th right now. We don't have to go 12-6 in the SEC to make it in. 11-7 should put us safely in. 10-8 we'll be sweating bullets on selection Sunday. Can't lose first game SECT though.

No womens BB team, at any institution, would beat their male counterparts. Fact.

I would argue that the top intramural men's team at any major college would beat the women's varsity squad.

Actually, there's no doubt in my mind.

storytime.

When I was at UGA our womens team still had Andy Landers as coach and they were pretty solid at the time. This one season in particular they were ranked around 10th or so in the country, so good enough that you could say they were "a good basketball team". A buddy of mine played some ball in HS and was like the 8th man on our team, he was the coaches son so who knows if he would have even been on the team otherwise. REgardless, he had basketball experience, knew how to play the game, and wasn't a bum. He was a guy that could go play pickup ball at Ramsey and hold his own and not look incompetent. The womens team somehow found him (no idea how) and a group of about 7 or 8 other guys like him; guys that played in HS and had some skills but they were just regular ol students that mainly played at the rec gym. The womens team got this ragtag group together and would have them scrimmage the UGA womens team for practice.

Now, when he first told me about this I thought the womens team must be whooping their arse because they wre pretty highly ranked. He said, "dude, you don't understand. We wipe the floor with them". He said games were never even close. The difference in these average joe males that had some athleticism and our scholarship womens players was like night and day.

It was then I realized that ANY womens team thinking they could hang with ANY mens team is simply fantasy.

Generally some of the student managers will grab people they know or guys from Ramsey to help the girls scrimmage.

Obviously athleticism is a huge (and probably the biggest) difference, but height and length also matter a ton. Women’s post players are 6’0” and have zero lift, while their guards are 5’4”-5’8”. That’s shorter than almost every guy who played high school basketball.

Even in my days the top intramural squad was all ex college players, so I'd bet you are correct.

i played with people at the Rec at A&M that told similar stories and we had an elite 8 team. its why i used to always laugh when people argued on message boards about whether a good high school boys team could beat uconn's women. you could really tell who the dumbasses and dads with daughters are in those arguments.

The worst part about playing against women's teams, high college level included, is that they don't abide by the unwritten rules of the men's game. Namely, if you jump don't expect to come down within 5 feet of your starting point. Leaving your feet is an open invitation for the women to undercut. That's a quick way to get sucker punched in a men's game.

Also, setting picks with elbows and knees in certain areas, but that could be expected I guess
