Auburn, Wisconsin, Oregon, Notre Dame, and Texas are just a step below that and could beat anyone on a neutral field

I agree there is a chance it's not just the Alabama-Clemson show this season.

That said, this tier i'm not sure about at all. Obviously we (Auburn) have a solid resume, but we'll have to turn a corner and then perhaps we'll be at the top of this tier or knocking on the door of the next tier up. Wisconsin has been pretty dominant and may deserve higher consideration. Oregon's status may ultimately depend partly on where Auburn settles.

But Notre Dame and Texas are living mostly on close losses to better teams, which isn't a great metric IMO. Both have some half-decent games coming up though, so if they're legit we should know soon.

I think LSU being included in this list is too premature.

Are you placing Georgia in the top 5 or 6? Because you barely squeaked out a win against 7 and looked terrible doing it. You got slammed by a decent at best LSU team last year, and decent Texas team in the bowl.

If we're being honest, Georgia is the most overrated team in the country right now. Based on the eye test, SOS, and the fact that Bama and Clemson deserve #1/#2 until someone beats them...

Everyone is talking about how ND may not be overrated because of how close they played Georgia. Maybe Georgia isn’t as good as people think.

Bama, LSU, UGA, Clemson, OSU, and OU all look fairly evenly matched and would be great games.

Those were the 6 teams that I predicted in the preseason that the national champion would come from. One-third of the season in, and I stand by it. I don't think the 4 playoff teams will necessarily consist of 4 of these 6. It could, but someone else could sneak in. The eventual winner though will be one of these.

Wisconsin looks dominant but has a mediocre passing game,

Well you've now lost all credibility

I love people who dont actually watch a team play and just like to make up shite to sound smart. Hey I remember from years past Wisconsin not being able to throw the ball so I'm just gonna parrot that now and people will think I'm a great college football analyst!!

Jack Coan on the season is 58/75 (77%) for 690 yards and 5 Tds and no interceptions.

Alabama, Clemson, Oklahoma, and Ohio State

Of these top 4 schools, only one school has played a ranked opponent so far. That school does not have a ranked opponent left on their schedule.

You don't really know what you have until you get popped in the mouth. Oklahoma has 1 team to worry about. Clemson can play their 2nd string in the 2nd half of their remaining games. Ohio State has Wisconsin to worry about and that is a home game. Alabama has to worry about LSU and that is a home game.

One thing for sure: Central Florida ISN'T to be considered among the elite.

right now heres how the tiers break down

tier 1
Clemson

tier 2 (kind of close and could beat clemson on a given day like 20% chance)
LSU
Georgia

tier 3 (would need breaks to be in the game w Clemson at end less than 10% chance)
Oklahoma
Alabama
Ohio State

no one else even has a shot.

You get the benefit of doubt when you consistently win, so it makes more sense to go with the first opinion.

couldnt agree more with orignial poster... its clearly equalizing... Clemson showed america that you have to run a spread rpo offense to beat bama, and be good at it... I think saban realized it earlier and moved his offense to suit a couple years ago... a shootout with timely defense is the only way to beat them... that and a Dline that has 3 first rounders on it...

3 of those teams have been in the playoffs or just missed them almost every year.

And? If 2 teams are significantly better than everyone else there will still be 2 other teams that make the playoffs

OSU, LSU and OU haven't beaten anyone to prove they have closed the gap.

Oregon, ND and Texas are average teams in weak conferences. ND plays 5 ACC teams.

Auburn and Wisconsin are proving they are pretty good teams.

Georgia is still Georgia.
