Only eleven teams can realistically win the national championship this year

Since 1996 (roughly the time recruiting rankings began to be tracked), only one team has won a national title without at least two Top 10 recruiting classes in the four years prior to their national championship (2000 Oklahoma being the lone exception).
As it stands right now, only 11 teams in the FBS have had at least two Top 10 recruiting classes in the last four years:
Alabama (4-for-4)
Ohio State (4-for-4)
Florida State (4-for-4)
LSU (4-for-4)
Auburn (3-for-4)
Georgia (3-for-4)
USC (3-for-4)
Texas A&M (3-for-4)
Tennessee (2-for-4)
Michigan (2-for-4)
Clemson (2-for-4)
It can almost be 100% guaranteed that your national champion will come from one of these eleven teams.

So you're saying there's a chance?

Actually, it's only one.

You can definitely take A&M, Tenn, and Michigan off that list.

I can only think of a couple offhand, 1999 VA Tech and 2010 Oregon.

Rivals recruiting data goes all the way back to 2002. From there you have to google. Anything past 1993 is non-existent.
Clay Travis had an article on it this week as well.

The Vols are Champions of Life. All other champions pale in comparison.

LSU/AU/aTm don't have a chance, simply by virtue of being in the same division as bama. Lol at UT having a chance. There's really only like 5 or 6 teams with a realistic shot.

An interesting spin off would be what teams not in that list could you see having a chance. I would say someone like Wisconsin who plays in a really weak division could get to the Big 10 title game, slip by whoever shows up from the other division (who's probably been battered and bruised) and then, once you're in the playoff, anything might just happen. Wisconsin plays a physical enough brand of football to knock off a team or two in the playoffs. Even if Oklahoma State made it from the Big 12, I don't see them having a chance once they get there.
ETA: Stanford is another one. Possibly Washington because Chris Petersen seems to get the most out of the least amount of talent.

One other note: How are teams like Texas and Florida not on that list? They haven't mustered just two top 10 classes in four years?

No excuses. They should be in the playoff.

Oh we have a chance.
We're just not likely to pull it off.
