Plus, Masoli still has to apply for a graduate school program and be accepted. Those things don’t traditionally happen overnight.
I found this part of the article interesting. I dont really know how things go in getting accepted into graduate school, but I know he will have to take the GRE(I did at least)and I have had friends who had to talk the GMAT and LSAT. If he hasnt already taken it then there could be a problem.
Also, and I may be mistaken, someone looking to go into a graduate program usually has to have a background in that area. I dont know what Masoli graduated in from Oregon, but if it is something like Physical Education or Business, then I find it hard for him to get accepted into the graduate program for "Southern Studies" especially if he has no intentions of completing the program. Graduate school admissions are a lot regular than regular college admissions.
ETA: I looked up his profile from last year's Oregon website, and as of last August he hadnt even declared a Major at the University of Oregon, yet he is able to graduate 12 months later sounds kinda odd to me.

So am I correct in assuming that Masoli would be coming in to start? Or would he be a very intriguing insurance policy?
I would think, just speculation, that Stanley would still be our starter. Which I am fine with. But I would imagine they would find ways to get Masoli on the field in situations that fit his skill set.
Having said that, who knows what kind of physical condition that JM is in at this moment. Hopefully he has been keeping up with his conditioning and whatnot.

I don't think anyone really knows at this point.
If he comes, he's probably the favorite to win the job, but I'm sure we'll gauge his performance in practice before crowning him as such. Stanley knows the playbook pretty well. I'll give it few days for Masoli to win the job tho

Already taken per Masoli's lawyer.

Ya think that would piss off Stanley bringing in Masoli? What's his take?

Supposedly he is fine with it.

Nutt and Stanley had a pretty lengthy meeting over this subject and Stanley gave his vote of approval. Stanley's actually all for it.

That's really the big negative that could come up with this whole thing. You bring Masoli in for 1 year as a hired gun, but if it costs you Stanley somehow, you've set yourself back at QB for the future. It's not worth it unless Cotton was the long term plan all along and Stanley was a stop gap for some reason.

I said it yesterday, and I'll say it again. Even though OM needs another QB, it will not be easy for him to come to OM due to the issues surrounding his departure from Oregon.
It will not give the administration much credibility, and will most definitely evoke negative reactions to accept him after he was turned down last week. I wish OM all the best in regards to their QB.

Once again....Stanley is all for it. He is still the starter as of now and I'm saying that including Masoli on the team.
If Cotton wouldn't have left, both of them would have competed for the starting job for the next few years.

Rumor has it that Stanley and some of the captains approached the coaches today and said they were fine with it so long as the coaches thought it would help them win. So, if that's true, Stanley's on board.

No different than the MSU pursuit and the Auburn signing of Cam Newton.

Don't care about the negative press. That'll die down quickly if he starts showing out. And we turned him down last week because we still had Cotton. We don't anymore so that makes things completely different.

Anybody have any idea on why Hawaii passed on Masoli last week?

You and the fans may not care, but remember that universities are bureaucratic and a business first and foremost, and as such they think of their image.
Second, how soon do you think he will start showing his talent? He needs to get accustomed to his new team, coach and play-book. You can't expect to see him doing great things until mid-season IMO.

I know WHY he was turned down

This could be big for the Rebels. Although it may take him awhile to learn the offense, he was good enough of a QB to win the Pac Ten and go to the Rose Bowl last year.

I agree with you here... at this point, it's the only thing stopping the Masoli train from pulling into Oxford

It depends how he does in fall practice... which no one can predict at this point
