I've been to Auburn and enjoyed my trip. I played the golf courses there in Opileka (sp) and then had fun at the stadium. There were some cool bars by Toomers corner that we partied at before and after the game and passed by lots of nice tailgates.
OM has the grove, but it's never really done anything for me. I like Memphis and the casinos at Tunica, but the ATL has a lot more to offer.
So yes, I would pick a school based on football (of course only one factor), the party scene and the proximity to something to do.
So out of those two schools I would pick AU.

You know, I'm getting a stomach ache from saying that...so I changed my mind. I wouldn't go to either school and choose to be homeless if that was my only choice.

Ole Miss has a better gameday experience, so I'm gonna go with them.

For those who are looking at choosing a school, there are several factors you should consider before choosing. Here are a few, but this certainly not an exhaustive list.
1) what do you want to do? If you know what profession you want to enter that should be weighed heavily.
2) Where do you want to live after school. If you want to live and work in MS, I would say go to school in MW. If you want to live and work in East AL/West GA, I would say go to Auburn. If you want to work in international business (or a specialty field), law, politics or something like that, you need to find a school that offers programs in that area and actually helps graduates find jobs in that field. Ex, if you want to be a geologist you might look into Okie St. (just a quick example off the cuff).
3) You can find parties and girls at about any school you attend, find a campus in a community that you enjoy. A place you want to be. I remember Southernstunna once said he went to OM b/c he likes the school and they have a good accounting program. Since he wants to become an accountant and he likes being in the South, OM is a good fit for him. What's a good fit for you.
4) Going to a school b/c it has a great party atmosphere may not be the best choice.
5) Finances come into it too. Unless mom and dad are wealthy and money is not an object, please try to get out of school with no debt. This will put you way ahead of the game. Going back to choice 4 above, going to a school to party may be a good way to lose a scholarship and force you to either work full time while attending school or take out student loans. You would be better off going to a small school that is inexpensive than getting the loans.
Apologies for preaching, this is an exciting time for you and good luck.

Good post by this guy.
I'm sorry but "gameday atmosphere" really shouldn't factor into where you spend the next four years of your life considering you're probably a 5'7 155 pound white kid who played 7th grade football exclusively.
And, as the poster two above said, you're going to find parties and hot girls ANYWHERE you go (as long as you don't go to Lehigh or GA Tech or something), especially in SEC schools. It's college; you're going to get drunk and have fun regardless of where you attend school so think about your future first.

Amen on that. The Grove is the most overrated tailgate experience in the country. It's crammed and the people there are just like the ones that stand in line at the supposed "in-nightclubs/bars" waiting to get in so they can say they were seen and tell everyone who they saw.

We get it. The average LSU fan isn't going to like the Grove - it just isn't your style.
To each his own.

This is a good post. I would like to add though that loans are not a bad thing as long as you are going to make good money. An example would be going to somewhere like Tulane($31000+/year) to become a pre-k teacher. I know someone who did this. It was fricking stupid.
Also don't waste college majoring in something that is not going to get you a good job. Make it worth it an get a job in accounting or engineering. If you are ready for the long haul major in like physics, math, or chemistry. Don't major in biology because it is not as good as something like chemistry.
I have no idea about the LSU geology program; however, the oil companies recruit LSU hard. The oil industry is a big market for geologist.

This. If you're a math guy do engineering, otherwise do accounting. Majoring in management, marketing, political science, etc are all for dumbasses who can't handle a legitimate major.

If you aren't getting into law school, health professional school, or a graduate program I really feel you could be wasting your time. Do not rack up loans somewhere for almost anything else. If you don't have top notch grades in some other majors you definitely wasting your time.
People in engineering and accounting could basically barely graduate and probably start out making more than people will almost all other degrees.
