they could develop their own momentum that increases the chance of victory in any given game.

So a lot hinges on early performances at Vanderbilt and Texas.

Actually, one thing I think will help this team is their ability to shake off bad performances. I was entirely surprised by how we played the following weeks after Texas, Vandy, aTm and LSU. We showed ZERO signs of hangovers from bad losses.

This season, we'll rely on that same toughness again. Therefore, I don't think a lot hinges on our performance in the Vandy and UT games. I think we'll be able to bounce back just fine whether we win or lose either game.

I also believe that we WILL gain momentum down the stretch as this team gels. We'll know which freshman can contribute early and we'll have positions set and starters locked in by then. Assuming QB and RB play is consistently above average, we have a VERY strong chance of finishing the 2nd half of the schedule on a 6-0 run. Not to mention 5 of our last 6 are at home.

I happen to think we are set up to win 7 and a bowl game.

2014 is going to be fricking STRONG.

OM season is going to come down to these games:

@Vandy
@Auburn
LSU
A&M
@State

They will lose to Texas and Bammer
They will beat UPig, Mizzou, SE MSt, Idaho, and Troy

How many of those other 5 games will they win?

Vandy? Maybe but it's on the road and openers are always tough
@Auburn? Maybe, but Auburn has a week off to get ready while OM is playing in T-Town
LSU? Maybe, but beating LSU is always tough- and now they should have an improved offense
A&M? Maybe, but A&M's offense likely won't turn it over 6 times this trip to Oxford
State? Maybe, but the home team is 12-2 in the last 14 Egg Bowls. And State will be pretty good also

They need the Vandy game as much as any, because losing that one and being 1-3 headed to Auburn puts alot of pressure on that football team and all its hype.

you will lose Moncrief, Scott, and 3 starters on the OL- plus Sawyer, Marry, and Shackleford.

I think you can replace most of that- but will still keep you from climbing any higher than 8 wins probably

Actually, our W number is probably 7 with a variance of 2.

Auburn and Arkansas are probably each a 6 with a variance of 3.

A Coonass prediction of an 8 win cap = Cotton Bowl or higher.
Many thanks.

Ole Miss looked solid last year, but the expectations aren't congruent with past results. 7-5 is reasonable, anything beyond that doesn't add up.

ftfy.

OL will be fine. Assuming (yes, *GASP*, I'm assuming here) we sign our current commits and strong leans, we'll have a VERY talented if not slightly young OL in '14.

Moncrief will be replaced by Treadwell.

Scott can and will be easily replaced by either Walton or Mathers (who are both almost identical to Scott in style and size) and they will be supplemented by Dodson and/or Buford from this class. We'll be perfectly fine and able to replace his contribution nicely.

Let's not pretend Shack is a starter or contributor just yet. I hope he is a wrecking machine this year, but no one really expect an all SEC type performance from him. So, we can relax about replacing Shack.

Marry does leave a hole. We are thin at LB and unless someone (or two) steps up from this signing class, we will definitely miss Mike Marry.

And Sawyer might not play this season at all. If he does, know one knows what % he'll be with his shoulder issues. If he doesn't play, we'll have to split time and identify his successor this year, which bodes well for '14. If he does play and has an outstanding season, then we'll have to rely on Elston, Alford, Golson or Burdette to step in. All of which are at least as talented as Sawyer and just need some experience.

Therefore, overall, we will be improved heading into 2014, not diminished. Again, 2014 will be STRONG*.

*like, 9 or 10 wins, strong.

Sky is blue, water is wet. Are you seriously pimping that "prediction" as a feat to be proud of and about which to brag? Jesus, that's embarrassing for you...

Im sure your just trolling but tell me how Arkansas is a sure win. Didnt ole miss need a game winning field goal to beat a john l smith coached team last year?

I watched that game recently and TW was lucky not to have thrown 4 INTs before halftime. Including the ones our guys held on to the number should've been around 7. If half of these theoretical turnovers had translated to points, that game would have been over in the 3rd quarter.
