Just like New Orleans.

New Orleans crime has drastically improved since Covid. Even with the terror attack our murder rate is the lowest it’s been in 50 years. Crime is becoming isolated to New Orleans east.

The city has also hosted Taylor Swift, the Super Bowl, Mardi Gras, College football playoff, the Zurich classic, Jazzfest, and UFC 318 all in the last 365 days.

Latoya sucks arse, but she’s on the way out as well.

Correct. Briarcrest isn't even in the same league as MUS, CBHS, Hutchison or St. Mary's or Lausanne

Or St George’s. Newer school but with a lot of old money. Lausanne doesn’t really belong with the others you named either

Germantown has cops sitting in the middle of Poplar, right near the line, watching for suspicious vehicles.

It's not "looking for suspicious vehicles". They're scanning license plates. And running the patterns through an AI crime prediction system. And they've watching for predictive modeling. Such as a car from Shelby County that goes into DeSoto County in the morning, and back again in the evening. T
And does that for months on end. That's a commuter.

But a car that goes from Shelby to DeSoto at irregular intervals at odd times of the day and night. And if that car goes back to a driver with a previous drug conviction. And if that license plate is also scanned in known drug distribution neighborhoods....that's very likely a drug dealer.

You have no idea what you are talking about.

MUS, CBHS, Hutchison and St. Mary's are the definition of "Old Memphis Money".

All mentioned are very nice. The area surrounding Houston High School, Briarcrest, and St George's was at one point the wealthiest zip code in the state of Tennessee and is still towards the top of the list.

He was calling Briarcrest new money not those schools. I’m not sure I would even call them new money. Briarcrest was where people went who wanted to go to private school but couldn’t afford the others. It became a school during the bussing white flight in the 70s. They moved from east Memphis to rural Shelby county because it was cheaper to build there. No idea what tuition is now but it was about 1/3 the cost of MUS when I graduated high school in 03. So whoever called it the swankiest in the area thinks that because Hugh Freeze coached there

What is the reason for that? Loss of population?

name a truly impressive MUS alumnus other than Fred Smith?

Briarcrest's tuition is 20,000. MUS is 26,000 now.

Eads is the best Memphis-area suburb. It's not even close.

Yes. Cordova sucks...in comparison to Eads (One of the nicest areas in the state). Memphis crime is overblown.

I don't want to Harry. They all have more money than you and I do.

Pitt Hyde founded a Fortune 500 company. I would think that qualifies as impressive.

I realized I've entered a chat about where the richest snobbiest most materialistic sociopaths send their kids to school in Memphis.

That affluent area around Mud Island, with the little bastards driving Saabs and Mercedes with Darwin fishes on the back bumper, where do those frickers send their kids?

It's not Christian Brothers or Briarcrest. I'll take CBHS and Briarcrest and Harding Academy and St Benedict and others over MUS every time.

So I guess you're right...

Memphis had 400 murders in 2023. More than any city in America not named Chicago.

Two major reasons:

1. The introduction of the state police into Orleans parish.
2. The new NOPD chief has drastically improved morale among officers.

NOPD is under a federal consent decree which essentially prohibits them from chasing criminals. Naturally the criminals knew this and would do whatever they wanted with no consequences. The state police aren’t under that consent decree and will run the criminals down at all costs and hit them with state charges. That fear of consequences has resulted in less crime in normal areas of the city and really isolated it.

Thats a very long winded answer, but it’s a complicated effort by both the city and state.

so isn't north shore (Covington, etc) having issues because of this?

Covington has its own little pocket of ghetto that I believe causes most of their issues. Slidell would be the only area of the Northshore that I would think sees any increase (a resident of there would have to confirm).

The suburbs of New Orleans (Jefferson, St. Tammany, St. Bernard) all have very good police departments that deal with any issues swiftly.

Lived in Midtown Memphis two years and married a Memphian. Love that city. If the shooting did occur in the neighborhood then that's a strange spot for a shooting in Memphis.

Fern Glade Cove is absolutely not within the city limits of Memphis, Tennessee, and is a small cul-de-sac in an upscale neighborhood far removed from the ghetto and inner city Memphis. Hell, it's on the other side of Shelby Farms and is less than two miles (as the crow flies) from Briarcrest, the swankiest private school in that area. I don't know what point you're trying to make here. Memphis sucks and is dangerous. Where this shooting happened isn't.

My step-mother used to live in that area. They moved the frick out a few years ago. It may not be Memphis but it definitely has started to become “Memphis”.
