Orgeron never recruiting anything close to what Freeze has done in his first full year and was a terrible coach. No one who isn't a total moron could have watched Ole Miss play this year and concluded that Freeze is anything but an excellent coach. I'm not one for moral victories. The losses to LSU and TAMU were losses for sure, but they are also evidence of a coming new reality. A loss is a loss, but taking LSU to the wire in Baton Rouge with 57 players is proof that we have a real coach, not Orgeron.

The facilities are coming, and soon. We got half way to our fundraising goal for new facilities in just one year, and that was a year in which we went 2-10. getting all the way there is pretty much a no brainer with the optimism in the fan base recently.

We will break ground on a new $100M basketball arena the day after our last home game of 2013. Immediately afterward, we'll begin work on bowling in the north end zone to increase stadium capacity to about 75k, and we'll start some major renovations on the rest of the stadium even before that.

This isn't speculative. There is an actual schedule, and we're already ahead of it.

it's good to know that this past season is indicitive of how everything will always be- i knew a&m felt that way considering how all of a sudden they're the premier team in the conference due to the 3* (or 4*) freshman qb that carried their entire team this season and now i see ole miss is now nipping at their heels.

Ole Miss hasn't exactly been a sleeping giant like TAMU or like LSU was in the 90s, but we've been a sleeping pretty big dude. With a good coach and an administration that finally gets it, we have more going for us than Ark or Auburn.

Lulz

You must work for Ole Miss. No casual fan could be this delusional.

Thanks for the laughs.

I think I get what you are "trying" to say.

If I was a bear fan I would be excited too. I am glad you guys are doing away with the current Tad Pad.

Auburn 2010

That wasn't Gus' typical offense. That was a once in a generation player taking over. Gus' offense was mediocre without Cam at Aubie.

Uptempo/high school offenses = Cotton Bowls at best

What about Oregon?

2009 was decent, 2011 was horrible. Averages out at mediocre.

Oregon doesn't play in the SEC. Gimmick offenses work in other conferences.

I don't get how this is anything to brag about. Doesn't this put you basically at Mizzou's current level?

2009 was record breaking, if I remember correctly. What he did after the train wreck of 2008 was simply amazing.

Gets them past the Cotton Bowl, does it not? Gimmick offenses can work.

I see you also failed to mention what Gus Malzahn had to work with at quarterback with Barrett Trotter, Clint Moseley, and Chris Todd. You cannot shine a turd. He was not given much to work with, at all. Plus throw in the Gene Chizik factor, in which Gus Malzahn had his play calling tied behind his back.

It'll put us just behind SCar and ahead of Arkansas and Mizzou. The capacity isn't anything to brag about in the SEC, though that post was in response to an Arkansas fan; so, it's relevant there.

What that capacity does is put us in a place where not many stadiums have a significant advantage. More important than capacity will be that it's new and very nice. It doesn't give us any real advantage, but it neutralizes an advantage that other teams had previously had over us. Most schools have unique advantages of some sort or another, and no one is passing us on any of things we previously had going for us while we are passing some and chipping away at the advantages of others.

Wrong. Arkansas and Missouri will both beginning stadium expansions soon that will place both schools well over 80k.

I can't wait to see OleMiss/Auburn play this year. Both will be running the HUNH-spread, but which team's defense will be able to hold up longer?

Should be a real battle

If so, those are pretty big expansions from what they have now, but as I said before, the point isn't to have the greatest capacity. The point is to be in about the same range. Before, a recruit may have looked at Ark's stadium and then looked at the Vaught and concluded that one was a big time program and that the other was not. After our expansion, no recruit will look at their stadium and ours and make any conclusion about which is the better program as a result, even if Ark expands as well.

That's fine with me. Stadium capacity will never be our competitive advantage. I believe we're the smallest school in the SEC other than Vandy, and until recently we were smaller by a lot. I think we had just passed 10k undergrads when I started at Ole Miss in 2001. As of just a few years ago, we had fewer than 100k living alum. The second biggest population center in our state is closer to 4 other SEC schools than it is to Oxford, and not much closer to Oxford than it is to Gainesville. We're growing rapidly, but the raw number of people involved in our program is not where we will surpass anyone.

The goal there is to get close enough to neutralize that argument for the bigger schools, and we're doing that.

I clicked over here after signing day to see who all thought we were cheating, and then signed up because no one had correctly responded to a question about why we have the black bear. No stranger to the message board scene but don't really frequent this site. I'll probably mostly disappear as we get further from signing day and there are fewer discussions about Ole Miss. I used to post on nafoom as WasteOfChevronsMoney, but found other things to do with my time when all the regulars disappeared a few years ago. 2-10 killed that board.
