It's an absolute shame that an undefeated SEC team didn't get the chance to play for the NC that year. I don't know if Auburn would have beaten USC, but it would have been a better game than USC/Oklahoma.

There's a story that back then one of Kirby's jobs was to cut up the film they would watch with the players during film study. One day the players played a prank on him and fricked with the film. Saban came into the meeting and lit Kirby's arse up because they had to wait. He couldn't stand it if one second of his day was wasted.

total agreement..

Everyone remembers the offense that year with Campbell, Brown & Williams but how good Auburn was defensively sometimes gets lost in the shuffle.. dont get me wrong, it woulda been tough to defeat USCw that night fosho (oklahoma walked straight into a buzzsaw) BUT I am very confident that defense wouldn't gave up 55fukkin points! IIRC, they finished top5 or top10 in almost every metric used to measure defensive performance (scoring, yrds/pts alliwed, total yards, etc.)......
