That right there is all you need to know. “We really want to keep on trying to make this thing work!” - The other 8 schools realizing that they ain’t coming back from getting a pack of cigarettes

Recruiting is going to be nuts, especially with athletes now being able to get paid out in the open.

The Big 12 GOR buyout after next season is around $60-$100 million for each program. So really it’s a lot of money especially for programs who will get cut off from that level of resources going forward.

I think OU and Texas hope - expect? - that when they finalize the SEC offer that many of the other member schools in the Big-12 will see the writing on the wall and jump ship for the Pac-12, Big Ten, or ACC resulting in the necessary votes to dissolve the conference.

We will see if that is an option for any other Big 12 program.

I do think the other 3 conferences are going to make moves but the Big Ten is going to be picky and the ACC only really needs one team (and it probably would be WVU anyway). The Pac-12 needs to be aggressive here but they’re essentially commish-less because Larry Scott has one foot out the door. So who know if they can seize this moment worth a damn?

That’s a hollow statement. The Big XII doesn’t really have a long and successful history.

Founding members of a conference that’s barely 25 years old. A conference that’s already seen 4 other founding members leave for other conferences. A conference that’s called the Big 12, but only has 10 members.

Problem is most of those 8 remaining programs aren't attractive enough to land in one of those other conferences. The Big 12 programs that had other options left back in 2011.

The Big 12 as a conference will be the new AAC, with a slightly more prestigious name. They'll poach some mid-majors like Tulsa and Houston and continue as a G5 conference. Which means UT and OU will very likely be on the hook for massive buyouts.
