I'm not a fan of the light effects and trying to trigger epileptic seizures in the stands, but the lights during play are awesome. There are no shadows on the field during play. I switched over to the Penn St / Michigan game Saturday night and it looked like they were playing in the dark.

The biggest pro to the lights is that recruits like them, the students, and some younger folks. The biggest con is that they look bad on tv. Since tv revenue is what keeps the sport going, I think this fad will be short lived.

Speaking of older folks, maybe I'm just ancient but those lights and the ribbon board have a Close Encounters kinda vibe.
They should take advantage of that and use an organ to play the tones.
We need LSUFreek to turn this into a Close Encounters meets North Korean military salute. I see some real potential here.

I have to agree, this is a case of we know you can, but should you. It looked HORRIBLE on TV. Like they had a bad fuse or something.
