That's exactly right. If all our shite was co-located in the Cotton District there would be no difference.

Very little difference between Oxford and Starkville.
Oxford has a few more restaurants, and that's about it.

1. University to City (how important is the Univ to the city it resides) 9. Very important, although multiple upstarts have begun.
2. Campus Proximity (is it central to the city)
10, heart of Columbia.
3. Proximity to Downtown or Bars (Self explanatory) 10, literally run together
4. Proximity to Sports venues (yep) 7, opposite side from downtown/bars, but still right by campus
5. Drinking Laws (how restrictive or lax are they...10 is lax) 10 for sure. This is where Missouri really excels. No open Container. No public intoxication. Buy any kind of booze at grocery stores.
6. Campus Architecture (is it pretty to look at) 9.5, have gotten multiple magazine shoutouts for beauty
7. Gameday Experience (Grove for Ole Miss, etc.) 5.5, This is where we struggle.
8. Downtown/Bar District (points off for distance between) 10, all together
9. Eyesores near campus (10 means none, 1 means ghetto is near) 9, pretty solid
10. Misc (things not listed...traditions etc.)
Everyone will give 10's. Mizzou's Homecoming is a sight to behold.
Coming up with around an 90. Tried to wait see what other grades people gave before I graded Mizzou. I know many people from tRant haven't been to CoMo, but it is a pretty awesome college town. Georgia fans have said it is similar in a lot of ways to Athens, of which I've never been.
Been to Columbia MO, Fayetteville, Oxford, Lexington, Nashville, Knoxville, and College Station. Would love to visit the rest!

Except there is more to Oxford than just the Square, you redneck assclown.
Except, even if the Cotton District and whatever other god forsaken stretches of "entertainment" y'all want to give a cute name were combined, they can't hold a candle to the Square.
Zorba's. That's literally all I have to say. Zorba's exists.

I've been to every single one 38 times and Fayetteville is by far the best. Not even close.

Most of Baton Rouge Sucks.
LSU area is nice and all, but I have lived here 7 years and avoided probably 60% of the city.
If we stuck LSU area and downtown in th middle of nowhere it would be a cool town, but the rest of the city just drags us down.

The only people I see trumpeting this sort of assertion are State fans, Numberwang, and people who have never visited Oxford and Starkville

I have spent more time in both towns than any non-state/rebel fan on the board. Guaranteed.
They are extremely similar.

I've actually been to both Oxford and Starkville many many times, over decades. The difference is shrinking every year that goes by. In a few more years, everything you hear about Oxford being way better, will be pure conjecture.

Starkville can't even make a club sandwich right

But that's just it, Tornado Alley--there isn't.
There are some fast food places off of University and Jackson, and a couple of restaurants on north Lamar.
The Square is great; but again, most college towns have its equivalent.
As the poster mentioned earlier: It all depends on the evaluatory metric you use: A weekend visit or having to live somewhere.

A) I spent five years in Oxford. How much time have you spent there?
B) There are far more things to do in Oxford outside of the Square. However, I wouldn't expect you to know that since you spend maybe one weekend there every two years.
Rowan Oak
PNC Park
Sardis Lake State Park
Mallard Pointe Golf Course
Oxford Country Club
Whirlpool Trails
Walker's County Line (RIP?)
Taylor Grocery
Lamar Lounge
BBB
Snackbar
The Beacon
Handy Andy's
Mama Jo's (a fantastic secret
Rice & Spice
Goose Creek Club
A host of shite to do on Jackson and other parts of town
Disregard all of that shite though. Oxford is basically a more concentrated Starkville

I've been to Oxford several times for games, never been to Starkville. The square is not anything special or unique as far as college bar districts go in college towns. The most unique part about it is the rules and the fact that's it's a little bit smaller than most others as far as the number of bars goes
The bars in it are cool but every college town worth a shite has fun bars. I do like Oxford though, it's a pretty town and a fun time for those that haven't been. I just don't buy it being head and shoulders above other towns that are similar

Edit out the secret. Don't need that getting out.
