In deed. It's wild a lady her age knew everyone's dads, aunts, uncles, sister etc. No matter the year of your Freshmen class she know your parents, ha.

She opened that bar in 1950. I'm happy I can say I smoked and drank with Maxine.
The fact that a woman opened a business herself in 1950 is wild. The fact that it was a bar is fricking awesome.

nope, spent the best 5 years of my life there though.
partied, met my wife, got a degree and my name etched in senior walk.
fayetteville served its purpose and served it damn well.

Lving in Dallas I really should get to some of these campuses when the Gators come to town. I went to Oxford in 03 or 04 when we lost to Eli and had a great time! Partied with the Ole Miss fans in the Grove after the game....great hosts.

Surely the Gators will be back in Fayetteville by 2019. Seriously, who knows with the new rotation...

I hope so. I am going to College Station for sure. Been there once, but it was a quick in and out on game day trip. Will enjoy this trip more.

I actually prefer Baton Rouge over Fayetteville. I've been to Fayetteville on more than one occasion too. There's more to do in BR. I really like the fact that 18-20 year olds can experience the bar life a lot better too. I go to tigerland twice a month probably, and I talk to my buddy who goes to UofA (lil' bro edition)and he says he never goes to bars because most of them are 21+. I'm a fan of LSU's architecture also. I get the luxury of having NOLA an hour away which is a huge plus for mardi gras (and the NCG/Sugar Bowl). I'm a big country music fan, so Bayou Country music fest is an awesome experience. I love crawfish, which missing out on in fayetteville would suck. Taste is a matter of opinion (obviously since you think Fayetteville is superior to all other SEC college towns)

Tuscaloosa- other than the strip, ttown as a whole= the suck. that said Ive always had a lot of fun there and the strip is one of my favorite sec areas.
Do people ever go anywhere other than The Strip when they visit Tuscaloosa? It seems all the views on Tuscaloosa and how "there's not much to the nigh life" is based solely on The Strip. There is a Downtown area of bars in Temerson Square.

Have you been to BR? That wiki page counts the population of all or parts of 9 different parishes. BR has 230,000 and it feels no larger except the horrible traffic.
Do you even know what metropolitan area means?

We were actually talking about the terrible time they had with the foundation and footings for that building today in a meeting. The way they configured the pilings in the architectural design could have created series problems for the Qdoba building next to it.

It's really hard to compare "cities" to college "towns". Lexington, Knoxville, , Nashville, Columbia, and Baton Rouge really shouldn't have to compete with the likes of Starkville, Oxford, and the likes.
I'll give some leeway to Athens since it's cool as shite, but don't compare cities to "college towns".

"You have 10 minutes to drink up and get the hell out..." I definitely spent more hours in Maxine's than I did in any class. Even worked there for a few years. When they still had the green booths. Man, I miss that place, and miss Maxine...

Completely objectively, the best SEC college town (really, best college town in the country) is Athens, Georgia. It's small enough to be a "town" but big enough to have a shitload of great bars and restaurants. The music scene is excellent, the town is very diverse, and the campus and downtown area blend together very nicely.
Oxford is still my favorite, simply because it feels like home to me and every time I'm there I'm spending time with old friends. Also, Oxford is one of the few true college "towns" left in America.
While we're posting pictures...
The Lafayette County Courthouse
Rowan Oak
The Square during the Double Decker festival
The Avett Brothers closing Double Decker (2008?)
City Grocery
Oxford City Hall
Nielsen's, the Oldest Department Store in the South (or so they claim)
A really cool old picture of the Lyric Theater
Some bro getting the sign in front of the Lyric ready for the Oxford Film Festival
Ole Miss' weed fields
I've never been to Fayetteville. I'll have to make the trip sometime.

Yeah, but do you prefer living over dying? I mean, it's going to be hard to compete if you're okay with putting your life in danger...then BR might have a leg to stand on.
Seriously.
BR is a death trap. I'd rather live in Starkville.

As someone who has lived in College Station AND Fayetteville, it's not really close. Unless you prefer strip mall type atmosphere. College Station has Fayetteville beat by a mile when it comes to chain restaurants and such. My perception of CS is also hurt by the fact that I absolutely LOATHE "texas country music," which Aggies won't shut the frick up about.
College Station is a fun place, though. I had a good time when I lived there. And they always have insane drink specials going on. But when they stopped letting people bring coolers to Northgate it lost a lot of its charm.

Maxine, oh Maxine... that was one bad arse woman!
As for CS, the "strip mall" as you put it, has changed a lot in the last 7 years.
And the bars bought the back area there and are making it into a 4 block walking mall that you can drink on, so the whole mini Bourbon Street feel is back.
Not sure where you're getting the chain restaurant vibe... yeah, there are chains there, but I can reel off an arse ton of local eats that are native to CS.
La Bodega
Cafe Eccell
Christophers
Republic Grille
Fuego
Antonio's
Cafe Capris
Koppe Bridge
Atami
Murphy's Law
Veritas
Hullabaloo
Los Nortenos -- Best Hangover breakfast
Stover Boys
Eccell Steakhouse
And personally there are bars with some kickass food like The Tap, The Corner Rooftop, Zapatos and The Chicken
I love me some weekday drink specials in CS. Talk about getting bombed off of $1 Chimay or $1 32 oz. whiskey tumblers.

I had a lot of fun in Baton Rouge last time I was there, but it is a dump.
