No they announced on Twitter this AM. Did UF pay the full $7.5M buyout?

Woah, a 7 mil buyout. So much for Foley being cheap.

Fantastic hire. I said it in another thread and I'll repeat it here. You'll win the east in three years or less.

A friend of mine was trying to tell me that UF was trying to lure Chip Kelly away from the eagles. I wonder if they even tried.
What was McElwain's record at CSU? Is his pedigree just his OC time at Bama?

13th best offense in the nation this year by yardage. Made them a contender in their conference quickly.
ETA: Also one of two lower 5 teams to beat two Power 5 teams this year (Colorado and BC)

Weird they got $2 mill from JM. Didn't know coaches could/would do that.
He is getting a pay raise so I am sure to him its not a huge deal. But still odd.

With the youth they have, I wouldn't be surprised if they win it next year. This is a great hire.

From interviews he didn't know the buyout was that big. It is like he blindly signed that CSU contract, and then had to say "Sorry UF, I fricked up. I will pay to fix it."
Crazy part is that he has to pay taxes on the $5 million worth of combo buyout as it is seen as income. Good thing Florida doesn't have a state income tax.
The $2 million game is a smart way to get around that. Maybe the "over six years" thing defers the income tax hit too.

It wouldn't shock me to see them win it either but with the way UF's offense has tried to change personalities so much under Boom, I think it will take him a season or so to get them to form an identity.
It also doesn't help that they've got LSU, USCe, and Mizzou on the road next season.

Let's not go overboard here, I am sure people were saying the same thing about Muschamp when he got hired. Results will determine whether or not this is a great hire. How many of Saban's assistants have been really successful outside of LSU and Bama?

Most of them? Jimbo, McElwain, Dantonio, and Miles are the only ones I know about. So he has at least two former assistants with national championships.

This has to be one of the most interesting HC hires at a major school in recent years. I have no idea if he'll succeed or if he'll crash and burn, but I'm looking forward to seeing how it turns out.
Anyone want to start speculating on his assistants? I assume, as a couple UF posters confirmed, he'll probably keep some of Muschamp's staff for local recruiting prowess, but what about his OC and DC?

Is this where I complain about schedules again since Florida will now beat LSU?

Solid hire. It's not the biggest name they could have gotten but in the end, I think it's going to be great for the program. He will win a lot of games.
