I honestly kind of feel bad for the AU fans. 2009 was a dream season for a UA fan, and I can't imagine having to deal with negative press while it was going on...it sucks that all that winning on the field has to be taken with all the off the field bull shite. It's like going to a shrimp boil and picking what you think is a potato, but when you bite down...its a onion.
I really have to agree with you on this. Ya it hasn't been as fun as a season like that should be. Oh well it is what it is and I have decided to

I don't discriminate. I should have said a "crawly-thing from the water" boil. I like 'em all.

I don't know what to believe. I think the HBO 4 were stretching the truth at a minimum and McClover seemed to be outright lying about some of the stuff he was saying. However, it would not surprise me if they were slipped a few hundred bucks by some boosters on occasion. I would be a little surprised, but not shocked, if a coach was directly involved.
While I don't think $100 handshakes are as commonplace these days as they used to be, I wouldn't be surprised if they still happen. I think if they happen, it is a couple of boosters who are aware of a few kids financial situation and want to help them out a little.
Who knows, maybe I am being naive.

I am still trying to figure out how Chaz Ramsey sold his Iron Bowl tickets for $1000 each. The ticket is basically just a pass, and you have to be on a pre-approved list that the player turn in pre-season. You walk through a special gate and show ID that matches the list to get in. The biggest allegation that bothers me is that Troy Reddick got an envelope from a coach. If this is true, and can be proven, then Auburn will be in serious trouble. As they should be.

I don't. Just listening to him it sounds like he has been tye Auburn spin machine for so long that it's second nature to him. He gave the perfect, politician answers any AU official would. He said a whole bunch of words without actually saying a damn thing. He took 2 full minutes to NOT comment on McGlocer's character ffs. If that ain't professional speaking I don't know what is.

Ziemba knows of no payments
I am serious
I do too, but there is no reason he would have any knowledge of anything going on. Wouldn't the first thing in a p4p scheme be basically limiting knowledge of it to those directly involved and trying to keep everyone else from seeing anything? If you have a recruit of two alumni and hes willing to commit for free why on earth does he think he'd see anything or get offered anything without asking for it? Former players not seeing it certainly doesn't disprove any allegations.
I think its become fairly obvious over the last 30 years that the whole recruiting system in college athletics for the money sports is crooked as hell. The amount of money skyrocketing over the last 30-40 years likely has only made it continue to be even more prevalent especially when we are talking about kids that academically would NEVER be accepted to most these universities. Many aren't looking for an education, they are forced into attending college because its the step between high-school to their dreams of being in the NFL or NBA. The money involved in the revenue sports has turned them into basically the NFL and NBA minor leagues. It's been embarrassing for individual schools blatantly disregarding rules before, but now its to the point where it is embarrassing for the NCAA as a whole. We're looking at probably losing the second national champion in 10 years (and we'd be looking at that even if Oregon would have won).
At some point its got to come to a head somewhere.
It'll probably end up with Auburn being a sacrificial lamb to so the people at the top to keep getting their cut of the money for as long as they can. Much like it will with the fiesta bowl getting thrown under the bus while the rest of the bowls try and deflect anyone's gaze from looking in their collective closets.

I wonder if HBO Sports has an agenda here?
I think when it started HBO was questioning if the players should get money, because of the amount of money the universities make off of their image/name. That's why I think they interviewed Prothro, because they wanted to see if he didn't think that he should be compensated each time that catch is shown, considering what happened to him, and he was not able to pursue a career in the NFL. Then the Auburn players showed up and the piece took another turn. Should all players be paid, since some were already getting paid.
