Exactly. Keep the continuity for this season, and then go after who you really want when the season is over.

You belong on Hogville. Just because it's down doesn't mean you should bring your stupid arse over here.

Who were the 12 people he contacted?

I'm guessing half coached high school ball somewhere in the state.

This hire is lose-lose for the Piggies...

Option 1. JL Smith as the Interim...wins a tons of games, maybe the SEC West...Arky is under pressure to keep him full time ala West Virginia post RichRod...JLSmith runs Arky into the ground ala MichState, we laugh at the Pigs...

Option 2. JL Smith as the interim, does not do so well...the Asst Coaches start to look elsewhere because the next Head man will bring in his own staff..we laugh at the Pigs...

I wanted Paul Petrino as HC as much as anyone, but I understand the reasons for not promoting him:

-He's already our OC and QB coach; asking him to fill those two positions plus be HC would be a lot to ask of him and probably wouldn't be for the best.

-We are trying to separate ourslef from the Bobby Petrino fiasco, so hiring his brother right away probably isn't the best way to go about that.

-Hiring the older, more experienced john l smith will allow the other assistants who were up for the HC job to accept this decision easier and not cause jealousy or rift among our staff.

- when john l left we didnt really have a special teams coordinator anymore, and now we got that back.

10-2 would be a disappointment to me this season after the expectations.

I'm a die hard Arkansas fan but you can't be serious with this...I agree we should be pretty good next year but even if the Petrino thing doesn't happen, we still have some issues defensively. Secondary will be VERY thin plus we are inexperienced at LB. Talented, but inexperienced. Just because we get LSU/Bama in the ville does not mean they are guaranteed W's and every other game is a cupcake. USCe will be tough on the road as well as Auburn. A&M could give trouble in a hostile enviroment but they lost a lot and have a new coach.

All that said, 14-0.

Do you think we'll still be the best job available come December? You think it's, I don't know, remotely possible that Tennessee, Texas, Georgia, etc, etc could ALSO be looking for a new coach (for a variety of reasons)?

So you're going to have to accept the fact that we're NOT going to be the best program, most likely, come December.

In all actuality, we'll be trying to convince a new coach to sign up to coach a team that just lost the majority of its "studs." No more Tyler Wilson. No more Knile Davis. No more Cobi Hamilton. No more Chris Gragg. Etc, etc, etc.

So one of those awesome pitches that we had now, "We've got a loaded cupboard at the moment. Come in and manage us well enough to get a good bowl game and start working on recruiting." Yeah. that? It's gone. It's going to be more of a, "yeah, yeah - sure. we graduated a bunch of guys. we had some guys turn pro early. But I SWEAR, those unproven kids are SUPER good too. Believe me."

It's a completely different situation to be stepping into. Step in in April of 2012, as a decent head coach, and you'll most likely win over the fan base because of how good we currently are in the grand scheme of college football. After 2012? Replacing a lot of players? That coach better have thick skin because his first year isn't going to be pretty.

Exactly. Not only that, but you'll have to convince a head coach to come in to rebuild and compete with Bama and LSU. Good luck with that.

Hiring JLS is not even remotely close to separating yourself from the BP fiasco. They have worked together at 4 different places and BP often said that JLS was his mentor.

I don't think separation was a consideration at all honestly.

"I am extremely pleased to welcome Coach John L. Smith back to the Razorback program as our new head football coach," Long said. I firmly believe that his selection is in the best interests of the young men in our program and will also best serve the mission of our football program and university in achieving success on and off the field in the upcoming season and in the long term.

Nah, realistically we will go 9-3 most likely, but that still fricking sucks. Most Hog fans are happy and don't seem to give a shite though. I don't get that. I want to win it all every year. Maybe I should move to Bama or some shite.

I still think it is utterly ridiculous that people are flipping out over this hire who wanted to promote Taver, Paul, Paul, or Tim to interim. If we are going the interim route this guy was the best possible candidate for the job. He can be a players coach and keep moral high while the coordinators do their jobs to the best of their ability and he can help out with special teams. Who really cares what we are paying him, as long as it is less than what we were planning on paying bobby we are saving money to put towards the new HC. Money is not an issue.
