I don't really consider Butch Davis, there has been scuttlebutt about him for years and never once been any evidence there was serious interest from him that I've seen. Don't think he wants to come back to NWA.
Yea but that was back when it was the old Butch Davis who was the top guy on any list. He is now damaged goods and NWA is a hell of a lot better than being a consultant for Tampa Bay.

Butch is an absolute home run hire.

I'm not ragging on TCU (I actually almost went there). But it's a silly comparison to say that he wouldn't leave TCU and bring up their stadium. Fan support, obviously, isn't a huge priority for Patterson
Patterson makes a ton of money, more than is indicated in his contract

It all depends on how much of a risk you're willing to take on a coach. A Butch Davis, Art Briles, Etc are all safe picks, IMHO, but I don't think any of them will get anyone excited about the future right away. On the other hand, you can go risky and go after a guy like Mark Hudspeth, but that's a boom or bust situation. I'd take a chance on him for two or three years, if he blows, try again.
I guess you have to play out worst case scenarios. With Butch you're floor for failure is probably around 4 games, with a guy like Hudspeth, I'd put that a little lower being since his coaching career has never brought him to a school with top notch talent (Sorry Moo St).

the guy is in the midst of transforming the program and you think things like the stadium renovations, something that happened b/c of him, is not worth bringing up?
and fan support isnt a priority?
are you really just that ignorant of what happens in Fort Worth or why TCU currently has a small fanbase?
Their living alumni base is only around 75k.
He is actively trying to grow the fanbase in Fort Worth and is doing a really good job considering what he is up against.
To say its not important to him simply b/c Arky already has a large fanbase is asinine.

Strong would be a disaster, Davis is still radioactive..... Malzahn or Holtz?

Not when comparing Arkansas/TCU. It was, in my view, brought up as a comparison point towards Arkansas. Why start at 30,000/game and hope to slowly climb up when you can start at 75,000? Like I said, fan support is obviously not a priority. Nothing wrong with that at all. But to compare the atmospheres at AR/TCU is like comparing aTm to SMU.

If fan support was a priority, which it isn't, he wouldn't still be at TCU.
It's obvious, to me, that his priorities are living in Ft Worth and making a ton of money (coaching/oil).

I'm sorry, I think Gus is flat out absolute garbage. I HATE guys who get hired based off of the success of some gimmick system that depends heavily on the one or two guys running it.
If LSU was in the same situation as Arky and Alleva announced Gus was our new coach, I'd put my LSU grad ring in a drawer, keep my TV off on Saturdays during the fall and probably avoid this site like my life depended on it.
Bottom line, Gus is garbage. Without Cam or DMac, he'd be an OC or position coach for some Sun Belt team.

Not sure why folks think that Patterson would fit well in the SEC. If June Jones and SMU can ruffle his feathers, he would suffer serious health issues in the SEC.
Don't think it would be a good fit. The Big12 may cause him some heartache. He'll complain about OU and Texas for something, quite often.

Which was not his original argument. If it's money/Ft Worth life, just say so. Don't say it has anything to do with fan support when it clearly doesn't (compared to other major uni's).

OK Captain Serious, obviously I'd take the shite seasons until the guy left, but I know I wouldn't be the only one hating a hire like that.
The guy is piggiebacking off of the success of other guys with unconventional offenses, i.e. Urban Meyer and Rich Rod. Both of those guys had their golden boy who etched their names in the "elite" category (at least for a short time, Rich Rod). I think he's got one solid deal coming his way from a big name school and then he washes out. I don't want to be the team that waste three years and kill countless great recruiting classes after he's moved on as the OC for Mid Tenn St.
