I lived in Lafayette for a while back in the mid 2000's. I think a lot of the reason why they get their panties in wad is because Lafayette/Acadiana, to them, is a big deal. From what I got from living there it seemed like one of those places that you didn't drift away for too long if you were from there. My buddies' kids & their friends usually would jump into the 5th year of high school known as UL-L rather than "starting over" in a new town like Baton Rouge, New Orleans, Oxford, etc. The kids that did go to LSU were "too good" for UL-L and usually came from wealthier families. Why they made such a big deal about it, I'll still never figure it out. LSU is a public university, not an expensive, private university.

Maybe things have changed, but from the looks of things, they got worse. The wealthy oilfield kids are still going to LSU and the only once that stay behind are the f**k ups or the townies.

Gosh darn it, Baton Rouge BBQ is just terrible. How I made it through school back in the day with the crap they call food in that town is beyond me.

I have not heard that at all. It will be us n Bama period. ND can sniff all they want. Why would he go to a offense that runs a spread concept and relies on scat backs. I just can't see it.

Notre Dame sends recruiters all over the place. They spend a pretty penny on recruiting. I went watch Joe McKnight play one day and ended up chewing the fat with a ND recruiter. It seemed like even if they didn't have much of a shot at signing the kid, they'd still would stick around to create a "presence" for Notre Dame in the future. Hell, if you have the money, go for it.
Well how about giving some credit to Clemson who was ranked higher before giving credit to louisiville?

Louisiville deserves a lot of credit for what they did tonight against one hell of a defense, but let's keep things in perspective. Clemson won a tight game with a defense playing out of their arse and a qb playing one of his best game of the season (considering the defense he played).

Louisville & Clemson to SEC?

"If you can't beat them, join them" right LSU and Florida?

... but seriously, given that Strong and Dabo stay in place for 3+ years, they've definitely made a case for themselves. Louisville has a pretty good basketball program to add to the mix.

On there right now. Hadn't been on there in a while. They changed it up a bit. Thanks for the advice.

LSU alumnus/UL supporter here. I'll be in New Orleans this weekend for a going away party and would like to make the game. This late in the game, where should I look for tickets?

According to mlbtraderumors, the Pena signing means that Berkman probably wont be an Astro.

It's not shocking. It would have been nice to see him come back, but Lunhow was probably only going to offer him 5M a year and that's well below his market value. Keeping in mind that he's somewhat over the hill and banged up, I'd put his value at around 8M a year and that's too far out of our price range.

Yeah, our payroll will probably be that of your local Mcdonalds franchise, but it's all about staying the course until many of our top prospects are producing in the MLB. When that happens, I think Crane and Lunhow will open up the checkbook a bit more.

I know it's been said many times, but what good does signing a Hamilton or Upton do for us if it means we only lose 70-80 games instead of 90-100?

It's only recently becoming that because of SBC ADs making smart hires recently. But you're right, they need to have a constantly updating list of candidates in their top drawer to make sure they've got a guy ready when their guy makes the jump.

I think you can keep your coach by showing them that you are making a GENUINE effort to better the program, i.e. switching to a better conference, new facilities, etc. Plus, it wouldn't hurt to hire a guy who would only leave for his alma mater or an Alabama, USC, UT, etc. That would keep the Kentucky's, Vandy's, Texas Tech's away.
I have family in Lafayette, LA and they understand that Hudspeth will bolt if a decent job come available. They understand that coaching in the SBC is nowheres near as prestigious as coaching in the SEC. The Sunbelt is a stepping stone to a bigger and better job for young coaches. If you're an AD at a Sunbelt school and are looking for a longterm solution, hire an older guy with just enough tread on the tires to get you through 6-7 years.

lsu fans you are laughing at a coach who has went to 3 straight rose bowls

Yeah, 3 straight rose bowls in a terrible conference with the two better teams ineligible for a bowl/big 10 Championship this year.

In all honesty, I don't think it's a terrible hire. I'd seriously take him over the one trick pony Malzahn.
I thought the reason he has stuck around Boise for as long as he has is because his infant son has/had cancer and Boise St has done everything possible to help, medically.

Yeah, I get that they tried to create a facebook for grown ups. I guess they banked on user-created leads for salespeople. I guess they figured the advertisement money would come at some point? It still has potential, though, IMO.
I met a UL recruiter at a wedding about a year ago. Hudspeth runs a well oiled machine in Lafayette. I've got all the respect in the world for the guy and his program. He took a dumpster fire team and turned them into a bowl winning team. I think he'd do really well in the SEC, given his background in the South.

That GIF of Tyrann with the bag of dope from Harold and Kumar put me on the ground.
I've been waiting for something to happen in Knoxville ever since VolNation went crazy when the Gruden rumors started coming out. I've got my fingers crossed for you guys.

No amount of money is worth even the chance of another 0-8 SEC record for Chizik. Plus that bum is stealing 1.16 million per win this season. He can GTFO.

I think you need to read my original post, buddy. I was under the impression that Chizik would get a $7.5M payday. That was cleared up by an Aubie that said it would be paid out over 3 years.

Next, under the same assumption that he would get a $7.5M payday, I thought it would only stand to reason that if a big name, "fix-it-now" coach wasn't on the radar, why write out such a large severance check? Also, you add an assumable 2.5-3.5M check to a guy like Art Bryles or Mark Hudspeth? Like I said though, my question was answered so there's no need to go e-smartass on me, skippy.
It would definitely hurt Bama's recruiting. Even if it's only a year or two that Gruden could flash his super bowl ring around and sign kids, it would still set Bama back a year or two. They couldn't replace lost top talent in the south with spare parts from around the country. That's just my $.02.

Well, if that's the case then pull the trigger. I didn't know the full details of the buyout. The only thing I question is the timing, now. I'm sure a few people have already been approached. If it truly is 4-7.5 mil paid out over 3 years, then I guess nows the time to strike. I just hope for Auburn that they get a big name and not some flash in the pan.
