State is at least in the top 5.

Easily better than LSU as well.

I think these rankings are just fine. I would obviously place Vandy way up there and then have the remainder all very close together. Each school has strengths in different departments. I'd say a degree from any of them will look about the same to an employer. This is all that really matters unless you're just into bragging about academics - which is pretty lame.

I may have gone to UF, but seriously academic ranking arguments in the SEC are a cripple fight...

Nah I think we've graduated from that sort of talk. The Big 12 is the new academic cripple conference imho.

Oh no! Some guy on the SECRant said his school is better than mine

I'm going into my freshman year at UGA in the fall and I'm having to sort through shite tons of possible roommates from MA,TX,MI,NY. We are national my milktoasty friend

1 of my roommates is from Aberdeen, Scotland and the other is from the Devon region in England. Do I win?

LSU's endowment is lower because it doesn't factor in research dollars. This I did not know. But I feel like I should have known.

What would LSU's endowment be then?

Why would an endowment (the principal, anyway) factor in research dollars? I think you might be mistaken imho tifwiw.

LSU will be moving up this list quickly. There's a staggering amount of new construction going up on the LSU campus. As of January, 63 construction projects were taking place.

quote:

Campus construction will yield a variety of new facilities for housing and research, said Roger Husser, University Facility Services director of planning, design and construction. “Currently, there are 63 projects under construction,” Husser said.

Some of the recently completed, in-progress, or soon to begin projects were a new Animal and Food Science Lab building...

...a new Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory...

...a new Chemistry and Materials Building ...

...The new Business Education Complex ...

...The Louisiana Digital Media Center and Louisiana Emerging Technologies Center....

...renovation and addition to Patrick F. Taylor Hall engineering building...

...and the new School of the Coast and Environment buildings...

In short, LSU is spending a lot of money to improve the quality of it's programs. As part of partnerships and sponsoring with companies like IBM and EA, LSU will double the number the number of computer science faculty and triple the number of computer science graduates within five years. And for the first time in five years, LSU will begin raising teaching salaries. Finally getting out of the post-Katrina doldrums that slashed the school budget. We're turning a corner here and not looking back.

Edit: In addition, every dorm at LSU is getting completely renovated. I'm talking gutting the structure and building fresh interiors. A few have already been completed, and several new dorms are being built, to LEED standards.

It's a wonderful time to be a Tiger!
