In the eyes of everyone in the nation outside of the LSU family and probably a lot of LSU fans also, Les Miles has one year to get it right or he is gone. I think most on here would agree with that and that puts him basically in an impossible situation with respect to recruiting and coaching for this LSU team.
So then the question becomes what is considered good enough? Let's assume they would have won teh opening game that was rained out (not a big assumption). That puts them at 9-3. If they win their bowl game, that is a 10 win season. Les would nearly have been fired during a 10 win season. That pretty much puts him in a situation which is championship or bust which is unrealistic for a variety of reasons.

Secondly, it is not the job of the LSU AD to respond to every pissy LSU fan after a loss to Alabama.

Third, LSU has other choices besides firing the AD, namely:
Fire the OC, fire the DC, fire Peveto, fire the OC and Peveto, fire the DC and Peveto, fire the OC, DC and Peveto.

First it is the AD's job to respond because it matters with respect to what the program looks like to future recruits considering LSU. Ask Alabama fans if the appearance of the program matters.

SEcond if the AD starts to fire the popel you are mentioning it makes it look as if Miles is being told what to do and that he is no longer running the program and that undermines him even more as the coach and scares of more people.

The university needs to unite behind one person and it needs to be the coach.

BamaScoop, that is a good analysis. The HIGH majority of LSU fans are good people and understand Coach Miles has earned the right to continue coaching for LSU and improve his team. The HUGE mistake by Alleva was not handling this in private. It reminded me of when Auburn tried to hire Bobby Petrino years ago. It's amazing how stupid high level executives from our some of our most respected educational institutions can be. Wast the AD fired after the Bobby Petrine fiasco at Auburn. I can't remember.
IIRC, the President and the AD "resigned" at AU after Jetgate.

Jetgate was actually carried out by a big time booster that also served on the board of trustees, bobby Lowder. Lowder owned Colonial bank and he and the AD did the behind everyone's back. He was later erased from the university because the bank he owned was taken under control by the federal government for corrupt practices and the AD was also removed.

Lowder is currently head of finance at AU for Tigers Unlimited, so his erased for a very short time as he's been penciled back in.

But Tigers unlimited is a very corrupt organization that can pay people and avoid turning over their books. It is used for very sinister activity in this state and has nothing to do with football. Alabama has the same thing. The political corruption is the state of Alabama is unmatched anywhere in the US.

Agreed ~ all I was trying to say was that Lowder has not been erased from AU.

Whatever, you can't control how a fan base is going to react going 1-3 every November.

Winning brings in recruits, not some kind of vague damage control by the AD.

No, there need to be wholesale changes. Too many big plays given up by the defense, not enough QB development on offense, to many long returns on special teams and too many penalties in all three phases of the game means that there are problems all over the field. It's not a matter of recruits seeing the AD firing people, it's a matter of recruits seeing LSU making the changes they need to make to win games in November.

Apparently you missed all of the goings on in Baton Rouge Saturday.

Louisiana politics fricked this whole thing up. Our President killed this entire thing.
The scare tactics King Alexander used through the media in the summer to urge Bobby Jindal to limit the funding cuts, by claiming LSU was broke and about to layoff 30% of the faculty and staff were probably in play when the LA's fine Govnah tossed his support in Les' corner. I'm sure it had some bearing on the final decision and why Alexander decided to meet Miles immediately after the game to tell him he was retained at HC.

I will start off by saying I was for keeping Les Miles.

I never blamed them for wanting him gone at all. But once the rumors started and people started acting all kinds of shitty about it I'm glad they are stuck with him.

Alexander shut down the whole thing. He was worried about perception if you pay 20mil to change coaches when you were begging for money just a few months earlier. Even though not a single penny of the buyouts would of come from the university, and if Miles would of got another coaching job his salary would of been subtracted from the buyout.

Nailed it.

What a fricking joke.

There was a great book written about my ole Uncle Edwin Edwards call "The Last Hayride" great and entertaining. Here is the Story on the Hayride about this fiasco. If Jimbo leaves for UGA you know it is true.

I was happy to get Bert's nuts off of my sig pic.

When I finally put together my proper man cave, I'm going to get a couple of pieces signed by him and framed. English Oceans is one of his best album covers.
