That’s a good stat. Wimp Sanderson was a great coach.

But Oates is your best. Congrats to him.

led the program to its first ever Final Four appearance, 4 straight Sweet 16s, possible 3 straight Elite 8s if they stun Michigan Friday, and this, cements him as the best basketball coach in school history and obviously among the best in the country. Give Bama credit, they hit on this hire, struck gold. Probably won't win a natty in this sport because of their style of play but they will constantly be nationally relevant and that's what you want as a fan generally - to be in the hunt.

Oats will definitely go down as Byrne's best hire as AD by a country mile

Consistent Sweet 16's have always been the realistic benchmark for me and Alabama basketball. Elite Eights are nice, and Final Fours even better—but at the end of the day, these are all arbitrary distinctions if you don’t finish the job.

Of course, now we’re seeing glimpses of something more, and that raises expectations. But under Wimp, Alabama proved it could consistently get past the first weekend. There’s no reason the program should settle for less than a coach who can do the same. From there, it’s about putting yourself in position year after year—and hoping one season the stars align to break through. I won't hold my breath on that

All he needs is a big man or two to protect around the rim. If he ever gets that to go along with the guard play he produces every season, he has a very good shot at winning it all one day.
