I've come to the realization that the Alabama fanbase is, emotionally, the college football equivalent of Corey Feldman

No doubt your walls are covered with his posters if you are half as obsessed as you are with Bama.

Yes it is, but can you understand why we all laugh at the 12 MNC's claim? The T-shirts with "Got 12?"? Not to mention the national recruiting title T-shirt.

The bragging about 12 MNC's didn't really start until bama was in the doldrums and on probation. My opinion, based on getting an A in Psychology 101, is it is a defense mechanism to prop up their ego's during and after the humiliation they suffered over the last 10 years and the death of their king 26 years ago.

Nah.. we had the shirts and all boasting 11 NC before the probation.

Eta: I think truly, it was more of a Notre Dame thing, since they have claimed the most over the history of college ball.

I wish they made an Auburn "Got 5?" for swimming and diving.

Making fun of does not equal obsessed with. However, in fairness, I will try to think of a celebrity equivalent for the LSU fanbase

Best ya got? Seriously?

I thought when Saban left LSU it was a meltdown. When he leaves Bama, it will be the equivalent to Global Warming.

I might even enjoy it. Can't wait to post on the Bama sites "<Insert new coach> is winning with Saban's players." Funny thing, the national media will do the same...over and over.

Enjoy the ride while you can.

OK I've thought about it.

If Alabama is Corey Feldman, needy, clingy, slightly pathetic and belligerent about how famous they both used to be...

...then LSU is John Belushi. Capable of both greatness and mind-numbing lows. Self-destructive, chemically imbalanced, and manic. Will probably both die covered in track marks while sharing a hotel room with a crack addicted whore

I'd have to give us an analogy to Rodney Dangerfield, on top or our game in our day, kind drifted off for awhile, but always seem to make ourselves known to a new generation and never getting the respect we deserve.

I agree.. like I said, it goes back to the retro ones and the disagreement there. Maybe to aggravate folks for not givin us the 66 title. I'm not sure when we started putting it in the media guides and such to be honest.

Eta: I do know its been going on a longggg time, as after our 79 NC, I remember the claim being 11 then.

You have to claim your victories in life, no matter how big or small. Otherwise the bastards wear you down.

True fans love their team, support their team, and believe in their team even if they are some perennial 4-8 team like Ole Miss. True fans believe that they can beat anybody, no matter how crappy their team is, no matter how mediocre their talent is. There have been some faithful Alabama fans that have been "talking smack," having faith in their team, from the beginning of this season. Same for all true fans that believe in their team. Just because some fair-weather fans have no faith in their team, just because some don't understand the concept of being a true fan -- doesn't make it cool to see the faithful believers, the true fans, disrespected.
