According to Byrne, he also looked at Lanning at Oregon too
Lanning was like 0-3 against Deboer despite having a talent advantage.

Honestly if Alabama people weren’t so stock full of self-importance and self-righteousness, Kiffin would’ve been a great hire as he’s from the Saban coaching rehab tree and was the OC for 3 CFP teams, 3 SEC title teams, a national runner-up, and national champion and coaches a modern offense. He was clearly pining for that job throughout the whole 2023 season. As long as he’s at Ole Miss, Kiffin will always be a commodity for a head coaching spot at a better program.
Name the big game Kiffin won before last year when they beat Georgia.

Not having their QB obviously matters, but QB play isn't what lost them the game IMO.
A fumble by the UGA backup QB at the UGA 13 that led directly to Notre Dame's only offensive touchdown wasn't a big part of what lost UGA the game?

Did Kelly lose to North Illinois (MAC conference), Marshall (Sunbelt conference) or a 3-9 Stanford team at Notre Dame?
Brian Kelly had some bad losses in his day too:
- 2011 loss to a 5-7 South Florida team in South Bend
- 2014 loss to a 5-7 Northwestern team in South Bend
- The entire 2016 season (losses to 5-7 Texas in Austin, 3-9 Michigan State in South Bend, 4-8 Duke in South Bend)
- 2022 loss to a 5-7 Texas A&M with the college football playoff on the line
Kelly's Fighting Irish also got walloped in some games against good teams or rivals too:
- 42-14 demolishing by Bama in the 2012 championship game
- 35-point whipping by rival Southern Cal in 2014
- 41-8 loss to Miami in 2017
- 30-3 loss to Clemson in the Playoff Cotton Bowl in 2018
- 31-point loss to rival MIchigan in 2019
The point is Kelly isn't that good, but what's also true is ND is in about the same position as he left them in.

Notre Dame didn't get "dominated" all year, much less by Ohio State. The national championship game was a one-score game in the 4th quarter.
Ohio State was up 31-7 with 7 minutes to go in the 3rd, and took their foot off the gas and it ended up being an 11 point victory.
That made it look better for Notre Dame but it was never really close, after the first quarter.

Easy.
2023 - Victory over the Heisman Trophy winner on a 10-win team and a blowout, dominant victory over #10 Penn State.

It was never really close after the first quarter . . . except for when it was a one-score game in the fourth quarter.

The 2023 Malik Nabors/Brian Thomas/Jayden Daniels LSU team
A nationally ranked Tulane team that came off a Cotton Bowl win over USC
Penn State in the Peach Bowl

This is a myth, LSU would have had to beat Georgia to make the playoff that season, that wasn't happening.

He's at least "good" or he wouldn't have a lifetime win percentage of .728 and .725 at current job.
I don't think he's great or elite though.

This win doesn't count because LSU fans decided the 2023 team wasn't good.

Tulane went 11-3 in 2023 but didn't finish ranked in either the AP or Coaches poll.
We beat them 37-20, but they were missing their star QB, Michael Pratt, when we beat them.

Penn State in the Peach Bowl
Yeah, we wore them out.

LSU was #5 in the playoff poll when they got whipped by the 5-7 Aggies in 2022.
But carry on with your revisionist history.

Notre Dame scored a touchdown to pull within 8.
The problem was they didn't have the ball with a chance to at least tie after around 5 minutes remaining in the 2nd quarter and they couldn't actually seem to stop Ohio State's offense, until Ohio State quit throwing the ball.

Would have still had to beat Georgia probably.
ETA - But yeah, I think that's probably Kelly's worst loss at LSU.

I'll give credit where it's due. After Notre Dame made it a one-score game with 4:15 to go in the game, Ohio State milked the clock and iced the game like a championship team should have done.

They should've came out and kept throwing in the second half.
Day got scared and would've choked it away had the score been closer.
